RE: Truck Advice - Dodge Death Wobble?

2014-03-12 Thread Hope and Horses
This message is from: Hope and Horses hopeandhor...@live.com

How interesting and incredibly timely that this topic came up right now. We
have happily been a die-hard Dodge family for over a decade. But about 6
months ago our truck (2007 1 ton Cummins 4WD quad cab srw long box w/manual
transmission) had the dreaded Dodge Death Wobble (see link below or google
it if you haven't heard of it). We thought we had it fixed...but on the way
back from looking at a horse on Sunday, it happened again. I thank God we had
decided not to haul the trailer and bring the horse back that day, that we
were in the right-hand lane on the freeway, and that we were not on a curve.
We were able to safely let the truck come to a stop, but it could have been so
much worse.

We have done a great deal of research on this problem, and have replaced every
part suggested to fix the problemwe are done. From what I understand from
what's posted online, it is possible for any heavy duty truck to have this
problem, but much less likely on the GMCs and Chevys because they have a
different type of suspension than the Dodges and some of the Fords.

We are planning to trade the Dodge in on a GMC or Chevy Duramaxhas anyone
had this issue with their Duramax? I've heard nothing but good things about
the Duramax and the Allison Transmissionsso I'm hopeful we are making the
safe and right choice for our family and our horses. I don't ever want to
experience the dreaded death wobble again.

Any input would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

However, when it comes to trucks, pulling a big load,
I'll take the Dodge, 1 ton diesel, dual rear wheels[for safety] and exhaust
break. I have owned both, also have many friends over the years, all favor
 the Dodge.

 Good luck,
 Jerry, in NW Wa.

My Fjord Mare

2013-10-31 Thread Hope and Horses
This message is from: Hope and Horses hopeandhor...@live.com

Thanks to some
explanation from a Fjord friend, I have (I think!) finally
figured out how to
use this email list/website/whatever it is considered.

I would like to
start out by thanking the people who have posted responses
in my defense. I had been told that the Fjord community is a
great group of
people, but unfortunately that has not been my experience with
the negative
and untrue things that have been posted about me. Your positive posts have
restored some of my
faith in the Fjord community, and I thank you for that.

I don't
personally care what the people think who posted negative and untrue
things
about me. They do not know my situation,
nor do they know me. If you
have some
imagined issue with the fact that I'm rehoming my mare, I would
suggest that
you do the mature thing and email me directly with your concerns
rather than
airing them publicly. I would also
suggest that you be very
careful and think twice about posting slanderous untrue
accusations - you may
have some unpleasant legal ramifications you didn't
bargain for. Defamation
of character is
nothing to take lightly. I will not allow
you to ruin my
reputation in this close-knit community. Of which I should really have NO
reputation...I
am relatively new to Fjords and am just getting to know some of
the local
breeders and owners. Let me be clear,
lest there be any further
misunderstandings - I am relatively new to Fjords (couple of years), NOT new
to
horses. (Although I think we all knowFjords are a whole different
creature
entirely!)

I do, however,
care about the impression that the rest of you have about me.
I will not stand by and have my name wrongly
and unfairly smeared throughout
the Fjord community, when I have done nothing
but try to do right by my mare.
This mare's
life has value, and I know there is a home out there for her where
she can live
out her golden years without being repeatedly attacked, chased
off her food, and chased
out of her shelter.

Please allow me
to address some of the comments that have been made.

There is no implied
“secrecy” in my Facebook postings. I
have clearly
requested several times in my postings for people to PM me for the
specifics.
I am a very private person
and don't want all that information plastered all
over Facebook. I have fully responded to every inquiry that was
PM'ed to me
and answered all questions honestly. Fjord people know they can look up my
horses'
info on the NFHR website.

My email has
not been banned from this list. It's not
possible to be banned
when I have never posted to the list until today. The email was familiar to
one person because I
had previously emailed them on a personal level within
the past few years. But never with a negative connotation to it.

I have never
run or been affiliated with any horse rescue. Nor have I ever
falsely represented or
mishandled a horse in order to get it sold. My email
address is called Hope and Horses
because I was a co-leader of a ministry
called Hope and Horses, which in no way
shape or form was ever (nor ever
intended to be) a rescue.

I really cannot
separate my mare from my geldings in an immediate manner.
We
just bought a hobby farm that only has one small dry lot and one shelter.
My horses are only used to being in a dry lot
- I cannot separate them by
suddenly putting them out on long, rich grass 24/7.
And I will not leave any
of them without
access to shelter.

Hopefully that
adequately covers/answers all of the comments that were
leveled against me. Since there's very few who know me yet, I'm baffled why
there were such negative things posted about me...it's not like I'm someone
you
just don't like or have a grudge against. I'm just a normal person,
trying to be a responsible owner and do my
best in the current situation, and
trying to give this mare a chance at life. My other options are pretty
limitedeuthanization being LAST on the list. But I will choose that
rather than watch her
slowly and painfully lose weight and freeze this winter.
Which would be a tragic shame, because she is
still healthy and sound and
rideable.

With the
desperate hay situation here in the upper midwest, I am realistic
about
rehoming her. I know she is not perfect,
but I am being very forthright
about what I see as her faults -
maybe even too much. But I don't want
anyone to be unpleasantly surprised as I was (she was misrepresented to me),
and I want to make sure she ends up at the right home. This is also why she
is free. I don't see what I am doing as a bad thing,
although some of you
seem to have tried to construe it that way.

Come on, guys! We're all drawn together by our common passion
for these
wonderful horses! Can't we all
just get along?
