My friend and myself are very petite people. So we don't have much strength if the horse was to run away. Our fjords we have been used on trail rides and are very calm and its almost an effort to make them trot. But you never know when you get into a situation and you have to have some control. Is a pelham bit more severe than the tom-thumb bit? I notice some riders are using pelham bit which is an english bit. I live in Eckville, Alberta. Do you know of any Fjord Horse Shows that are coming up this summer in Alberta, B.C. . I sure would like to go to one to see what is all about. In september Spruce Meadows Calgary puts on a Horse Show it is GREAT!. I have ridden for about 5 years and have owned other horses. But I do feel that Fjords seem to be more calmer than other breeds. I really LOVE them and seem so good with beginner riders. What do you think? Take Care Rainy Cold Alberta Jackie
What Bit to Use!!
This message is from: Jackie Bellerive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone, My friend has just bought her self a fjord gelding. He is very calm and gentle. BEAUTIFUL HORSE. But the horse was never taught to flex so she has been using a Tom-thumb bit on him and seems to not mind it at all. But she feels it doesn't turn the horse around into a circle incase she ever had a problem like a run away. I have been using full cheek snaffles and d-ring snaffles. But she wants more control for Luella is 65 years old and a small person. Her trainer suggested a o-ring twisted iron bit. What do you guys think or what kind of bit would you suggest. Thanks Jackie

She was a abuse mare we bought 1 year ago. An older man had her and she was scared to death of people. We can't even get close to catch her. She has been sick since Sunday so on Wednesday we will get some help out and we will have to take some fence down and see if we can chase we into the corral. I wonder if a shot of white pencillian 30cc would help her and not damage the foal. Can she lose the foal if she is sick? Thanks Jackie Eckville, Alberta
Sick Horse
This message is from: Jackie Bellerive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Everyone I hope someone can help me out with some information. My horse was bred last May 20,21. When should she be having her foal? This is my first time and Im new to all of this. I thought the end of April or by May 11? Is this correct? This horse the last couple of days has been staying away from the other mare she is with. She looks like she is not feeling good. Her head is pointing out straight ahead and her tail is lifted up a bit. I think she also has cold for today she is snotting light green out of both nostrils. Can a person give her a shot of pencillian without effecting the baby. To make matters worst she was a mare that I bought who was abuse badly when we found her. So she is very, very difficult to catch. Please let me know what you think I should do.
Hello from Alberta
This message is from: Jackie Bellerive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi, Everyone I have just recently purchase a fjord gelding 11 years old. He has been used specfically for trail riding which is what I LOVE. I have had other breds however, I was told fjord's generally are calmer and easier to train. I am looking for feedback on how other people like their horses compared to other breds and just some information on the fjord. Thanks Jackie
Hello from Alberta
Hi, I am looking for a list of breeders for Fjords in Canada as well as in Norway. I am having trouble finding any books on this breed. Could you suggest a good book with general information. Thanks Jackie Bellerive RR1 Eckville, Alberta T0M 0X0
