Saddle Fitting

Saddle Fitting

We also have a high whithered Fjord with a narrow frame. I have looked and
looked for a western saddle to fit him. My compromise was to purchase an
Australian saddle (without a horn - but I do use a grab strap). It fits him
beautifully and he and I have been most happy with it. They do
come with or without a horn. They are lighter than most leather western
saddles. Quality varies greatly from one manufacturer to the next. If you
decide to go this route some research will be beneficial.

After I had purchased the Aussie I tried a Utahn western saddle that we had
custom made for a
small Moab about 30 years ago and that seems to fit Flynt as well although I
have not put miles on it to confirm its comfort. I'm not sure if they are
still in business - can't find them on the web but saw a used one for sale.

I will also be interested other riders' recommendations.

You might want to check out the Izmine by Dynamite
(http://dynamite.mystateusa.com/Izmine_for_Horses.htm).
I have my fjords on it and have been pleased with their product. A
friend that is also following some of the feedings suggested by Pat
Coleby. They also carry some of the minerals and natural salt that are
not in the block.

Parelli Fjords

Yes Jean, there are a few Parelli fjords out there. Two here in
Nolensville TN. I just passed Level 2 and am working on Level 3. I was
also able to have a lesson with Linda when she was in Murfreesboro last
fall. A super great experience, don't know if we'll end up on a Savvy
Club DVD or not, we worked for almost 2 hours with Linda.

This message is from: Donald & Jeanette Rantala <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

We are new members to the Fjord Horse list serve.

Name: Don and Jeanette Rantala
Location: Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, USA which is a small village of 900
persons at the tip of Lake Superior.

Horse background: During November Ezzie, a yearly Fjord, and Flynt, a
weanling Fjord, joined our three Morgans, Chico (29 years), Starfire (14
years) and Apryl (9 years) and our neighbor's 7 month old pony.

We ride all of our Morgans both English and Western and primarily drive
Apryl. In a few years we hope to drive and ride the Fjords as well.
Grooming, scratching and leading have been our major activities with them
while they become more acquainted with our place.

We are members of the Northwoods Harness Club, Ltd. which is open to anyone
interested in the sport of driving horses and/or horse drawn vehicles. This
is a group of friendly folks that help one another learn to drive and have
fun. Saturday, January 12, 2003, the 17th annual Northwoods Harness Club
Sleigh and Cutter Parade will be held in Duluth, Minnesota, USA at the
Lester Park Golf Course. Participants (advance registration required) and
spectators are welcome. A banquet is held Saturday evening for participants
and an informal drive on Sunday at the stabling facilities. If there is no
snow we will use wheeled vehicles at another location (this happened for the
first time in 16 years in January 2002).

Monthly meetings are held in the winter (without horses), driving training
sessions in the spring and 4 to 6 driving activities with horses are
scheduled throughout the year. Some are for one day and some include camping
for several days.

We look forward to learning more about you and Fjords!!
