This is in response to Sue Freivald's post re: clipping or not clipping. I
am boarding at a facility that heats the barn, but not the indoor arena.
This question has been a real dilemma for me since I don't believe in
blanketing. Because my mare, Anja, and I are working toward the upcoming
show season, the work is strenuous. Anja is not clipped presently, but I am
considering a partial/trace clip this week of the areas that get so sweaty
and take so long to dry. Of course this means she will need to be blanketed
after clipping since it is still winter here in Wisconsin. The areas I
intend to clip are: her chest, under and around her elbow, down her sides
(not her belly tho), across her flank with a band across her stifle area to
the back of her leg. A minimal trace clip if you will. I really don't want
to do this, but putting her back outside when she is still damp or wet isn't
an option either. For her health and to get her the maximum time out of the
barn, this appears to be the only option. Unless someone out there has a
better suggestion...

Slow Feeders

2015-01-24 Thread Paula Rush

I board my mare, BHF Anja. I use ChinchChix (now HayChix) nets with grass
hay. She is stalled at night and on dry lot during the day - no pasture time
whatsoever. I feel badly about this, but I tell her it's for her own good. I
have three of the mini nets (2 to 2-1/2 small bale flake size) which I keep
full and switch out during the day. She has hay throughout the day, but
probably runs thru the last net about 8 pm or so. I supplement with a cupful
of Empower grass balancer am and pm. I monitor her weight every other week
or so and this regimen keeps her right under 800#. She is 13.3-1/2h (that is
an important 1/2 inch!). Use of the nets (this is a pain for the feeders,
so I try to keep them stuffed myself) and the access to a dry lot were
conditions of my board arrangement. I ride/hack or longe six days/week with
one day off to keep her (and me) fit. This works for us. I only have one
horse tho. Those of you with multiple horses have a real challenge to be
sure!!

So glad to see the list active again! FB just isn't the same. Too impersonal
imho.

THIS IS A SCAM!!! Received a similar email with a similar story
purportedly from a friend - visiting in England also. I called my
friend. She was home, but her computer had a virus that (apparently) got
into her address book.

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes. I came down here to London,
United Kingdom for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the
park of the hotel where I stayed, all cash, credit card and cell phone
were stolen off me but luckily for me I still have my passport with me.

I have been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping
issues at all and my flight leaves in few hours from now but I'm having
problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me
leave until I settle the bills,

I need urgent help.I'm freaked out at the moment.

Onna.
