Changes
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I've been reading these posts the last few weeks about crossbreeding Fjords and now it's changing the Logo. Whats wrong with the Fjords the way they have been, whats wrong with the Logo the way it is? Next somebody will want the Amish to change the way they exist. Just my opinion. Thank you Larry Sederstrom

Lisa, non-Fjord fan
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> It sounds to me like the Fjord in the comments from Lisa was not ready to be hooked to the cart. I have worked with several Fjords and love to train them, but they need training just like any other horse. You have to know when your horse is ready to go to the next step. Lots of ground work and each lesson has to be introduced slowly and make sure the horse understands whats expected,by the time I hook a horse to a cart they are ready and I have no problems. The Fjords that I've worked with all have different personalities so they were handled accordingly. They do mature slowly, my mare that I have was not ready to be driven in a cart until she was 6 yrs. old, she needed more time at riding under saddle to understand what was expected of her and also more ground work. She now rides and drives very well and I'm satisfied that she knows whats expected. But I would never recommend her for a beginner rider or driver. I like John Lyon's view that you and your horse should not get hurt. I hope that Lisa has better luck with her Fjord.
Response to survey
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have been reading the responses about the survey, which I did send back, and want to say that the people that don't show have just as much impact on the exposure of the Fjord breed as much as showing them. My case in point is that we do parades and trail riding in our local area and there has been seven people that bought Fjords because they seen ours and that is a total of 12 Fjord horses, not counting our three Fjords. Some of these people have had their mares bred so that's money being spent to breeders for stud fees. Some of these same people are shopping now for more Fjords, and we have a neighbor that wants to buy Fjords. We love the breed and do our best to show people what a wonderful horse they are. We feel that we are doing just as much promoting of the breed as anyone else even though we don't show our horses. Please don't think that showing your horse is the only way to promote them. The parades that we do have more people watching than at a horse show. We ride and drive to show how versatile the Fjord is in the parades, and stop and talk to people and answer any questions they have. Just my two cents, a happy backyard Fjord horse owner.
Saddle fit
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Just another note on saddle fit that Karen McCarthy brought up that is excellent advice about the gullet hitting the horses wither if the saddle is to wide, and the shoulder area. On the heavier Fjords they seem to have bigger shoulders and I see alot of people put the saddle to far forward on the horses back. When I ride my gelding I put the saddle back more on him and he is much more comfortable to ride. Smoother gaits I noticed right away when I tried this the first time and his attitude was, like he enjoyed his work more.
Circle Y saddle
This message is from: "Sandy Sederstrom" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Has anyone checked out the new Circle Y Draft Horse Trail Saddle? I thought this might be worth a look. It was advertised in a flyer from State Line Tack. The ad says it is made with a round skirt, and extra wide tree for wider short backs, in 16", 17", 18" seat. Price listed at $1,090.00. I have had good luck with my Circle Y Park and Trail saddle for my Fjords, very comfortable saddle for me and my horses. There are a few things you can do to get your saddle to stay put on round backs. A gripper pad helps, under your saddle blanket. Also a wide felt lined cinch, and a single layer wool saddle blanket. These are some of the things I found through my own battle of trying to get a better saddle fit.
