Know someone looking to get into Fjords? Looking for a second fjord, or
someone to teach you to drive?

SF Atom (NFHR sf-e-321-sg) is a great horse to learn to drive or ride with.
He's a 1991 model, but we all know that 20 isn't all that old for a Fjord.
He's 14.1, and somewhere around 1,000 pounds, a solid, tank of a Brown Dun.

He is strong enough to carry 300lbs with ease under saddle. Comfortable and
quiet with ringwork, doesn't get bored with it. Solid walk/trot, canter needs
work. Sane, sensible experienced driving horse. Real Buddha pony, quiet and
patient, but not dead. Goes great on trail with others, needs a confident
rider with some experience to go out alone. Goes pretty much anywhere driving.
Easy to work around on the ground. Will try grass diving on occasion, but he
is a fjord.

Barefoot, air fern food requirements, sound for the last 9 years. Great second
horse, gets along with anyone. Would be happy in a turnout situation, or in a
more traditional stabling situation, has never lived alone. UTD on shots,
coggins, teeth, feet.

Sold with all equipment, including harness and 2-person cart. He'll also come
with a treeless saddle that he goes well in, a bareback pad, his bridle, and a
blanket.

Tom is located in Central Massachusetts.

Asking $2,800 for the whole package.

Still Available SF Dyre, Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry number SF-G-528-SG

Born: July 7th, 1993
Height: 14.2
Weight: ~900lbs

Don’t let age fool you on this healthy, strong 17-year-old Fjord Gelding.
Typical of most Fjord, Dyre is a Brown Dun.

Dyre does well in the ring, and is a confident trail horse. He will work
alone or with company. He prefers to lead on the trail, but can follow. He
has spent the last few years as the mount of a beginner rider, so that’s
something he’s familiar with, and is good at. Dyre would do better with a
rider who is not timid. He has Pony Club experience in his background, but
has not seriously jumped in a number of years.

Dyre has been barefoot for 5 years without a problem. He does best in a
Treeless Saddle that is included with him. He’s up to date on his shots, and
has a recent Coggins.

Included with Dyre will be:
Treeless Saddle, Barefoot Brand and special pad for saddle
Suede Bareback Pad
Girth that works with either Saddle or Bareback Pad
Full Leather Bridle with Bit
Blanket
Grooming equipment (Brushes, combs, hoof pick, ect)
Hoof boots for the front.

Asking $2,800

Please email quycksy...@yahoo.com for more information. Photos can be seen
online at http://worcester.craigslist.org/grd/2032993238.html

Thanks for looking,
Regards,
Shawna

It's a good picture, particularly since the little girl touching all over him
is a blind student that's part of the Perkins School for the blind in
Watertown.

Nice picture, great idea, nice to see fjords in the news, so I thought I'd
pass along the link.

Need opnions on reasonable prices for Fjords...

2010-09-21 Thread Shawna K-B.
This message is from: Shawna K-B. quycksy...@hotmail.com

I have to Registered Fjord Geldings that I might have to look at selling soon.
I'm interested in people's opinions on the values of these two golden boys.
After all, I'm biased. I'd be selling them with some of their tack, but I'm
interested in the fair market value for the horses only. I know the fair
market value of the tack.

The Fjords are located in Central MA, since location matters.

One is SF Dyre, 18 years old. 14.2, build is on the light side of heavy.
Dead sound, healthy and barefoot. Brown Dun. Rides english. Has done pony
club, but not in many years. Dyre is a good boy, but he is a pony. He's a
strong fjord, both in body and mind. He's taught three people that we know of
to ride, rather than being a passenger. There's no buck or rear in him, just
a mind of his own. He would thrive in a lesson program, he likes a regular
work schedule, and he doesn't mind actually working. I don't think he'd have
the patience for a therapy program. He does trail ride, but likes ring work
better.

The other is SF Atom, we call him Tom. He's 20 years old, 14.1 and a drafty
fjord. Dead sound, healthy, and barefoot. Also a Brown Dun. He rides and
drives. He's patient with anyone. The people who know him call him a Buddha
pony. He'd be a great family horse, provided there was at least one person in
the family with some experience. He is good on the trail, but a little
cautious on the road under saddle. In harness he is pretty much fearless. He
could do therapy work, but he'd be happier with a small group of his people, a
family, a couple, that kind of thing. He has done CDEs but I don't know how
long ago. I don't think he's ever jumped formerly.

So folks, Have at it. How much would you pay for them?

I appreciate any opinions.

Thanks all.
Shawna, Dyre and Tom

RE: Proper Vet Manners...

2009-05-16 Thread Shawna K-B.
This message is from: Shawna K-B. quycksy...@hotmail.com

I won't mention what I think that behavior is, because I'm pretty sure that
our list owner would block me for language.

You are supposed to trust you Vet. Your vet has to work on trusting you and
not punishing your horses because of something someone else did. You and your
animals deserve a vet that works with you. Anyone who actually pays attention
to horse should know that a one-size-fits-all approach to horses is not going
to work.

Try calling you vet and asking for her to call you at a time that is
reasonable for her to talk to you for a while. This treatment of your horses
is unacceptable. What's more, her reason for treating all horses this way is
going to backfire. These are thousand + pound animals with minds of there
own. There is nothing on this Earth that a human is going to do to hold a
horse that does not want to be held. I've heard stories from the older farm
folks around here that include horses busting through stall and trailer walls,
climbing 10' stall walls, and blowing through just about any line or fence
made when frightened enough. That doesn't count the nastier stories I've
heard of the ones that try fight instead of flight. Your Vet's handler is
setting her up to be attacked. It's just a matter of time and the right
horse. Try expressing your concern for her well being and where you see thing
is going for her in the long run. Also try suggesting a different handler.
If she won't listen, I would strongly suggesting going on the great Vet hunt,
before you need to sedate your horse for his annual shots.

As an aside that is funny in an ironic way, I can see an escalation here as
her handler's methods upset more horses... One handler going to two handlers,
then horses needing to be sedated for their shots so they'll be quiet, then,
well... Pictures of a trank gun are trailing into my mind.

I'd say in short, but I already blew that. The problem isn't your horse.
It's you're vet's mindset.

Best of luck,

Shawna

Yesterday, the Vet and handler immediately put a chain over my horse's nose,
pushed him up against the back wall of his stall, and went right for his rump.
I thought my horse's eyes were going to jump out of his head.  (I had
visions of a B movie drug bust.) Â BIG protest on my part. Â I was told that
the handler was there to keep my Vet safe and was just doing her job.
