colicky horse
This message is from: fjordp...@verizon.net A fjord should have the same gut sounds as any horse. A horse that has had colic for several days is serious. Has he been passing manure? What does his breath smell like a colicky horse often has a sour smell to his breath. If I suspect a colic I take away all food (don't want to make an impaction worse) check gut sounds, breath, capillary refill time, temp, pulse and respiration. I write all this down for future use. Clean the stall so I can tell how much if any manure is passed. A normal horse should pass amount 7 piles a day. Then I give 10 cc of banimine and watch. if horse doesn't get better in the next 8 hours or so I involve my vet with a phone call then go with his advice as to if the horse should be seen. Gut sounds do not mean that the horse is O K there could be movement on the OTHER side of the impaction. Also colic can be caused from lots of things other than impaction. I had a pregnant mare that had a colic WITH gut sounds, but seemed different couldnt tell the vet why it was just different. I just felt in my gut I should bring her in. Turned out that her uterus had twisted 180 degrees. My vet and his wife opened her up fliped the baby back around and she delivered a healthy foal a few months later. A gas colic will have MORE gut sounds. Sand in the belly sounds kind of like waves on a beach although you need a stethoscope to hear it. I would borrow a trailer and get the horse treated. a gallon of mineral oil pumped into the stomach usually gets things moving. when you see the oil on the back of the legs the next day you know that you have movement from one end of the gut to the other. good luck let us know how he does Linda Important FjordHorse List Links: Subscription Management: http://tinyurl.com/5msa7e FH-L Archives: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw Classified Ads: http://tinyurl.com/5b5g2f
Fjord extreme cowboy race video
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I made this video for my craig camron extreme cowboy race application. What do you think is it good enough or do I need to add somthing. I think it would be great to have a fjord in the thing. If we get in I think we could have a shot at it. I am looking for honest feed back, thanks Linda Adame http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5ebaXCTpfQ Important FjordHorse List Links: Subscription Management: http://tinyurl.com/5msa7e FH-L Archives: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw Classified Ads: http://tinyurl.com/5b5g2f
RE: fjordhorse-digest V2008 #207
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cheers and thanks again, Jacquelyn in No. Nevada **Where yesterday at a local Trail Trial, Alena was mistaken for an Icelandic by about 90%. Amazing how many equestrians don't know of the Fjord breed and one lady who did know asked, "Is that one of those Fords?" I said, actually she is a Chevy. It was funny and my 4 year old placed 7th out of 26 for my division:) Super schooling opportunity. Thanks KMac for giving me the trail trial bug. Try an extrene cowboy race, even more fun, and a great schooling opportunity. I've had to side pass a L looking directly at a zebra, Pick stuff up off the ground without dismounting (thank god I was riding a pony), ride through a cowboy curtain made of pie tins. cross belly deep water with packing peanuts floating in it. Its a great way to show off just how leval headed our fjords are. Re: fjordhorse-digest V2008 #117
This message is from: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I had the same problum with dry spots behind the withers. I went to a draft horse tree that helped some but not enough. What finally did the trick is I found a pressure release pad, it has intentations behind the withers and you fit the bars of the saddle OVER the indentation (not in) and it relieves the pressure. The only place I have found it is on clinton andersons web site (ClintonAnderson.net) its a little pricey but its well made and fixed my dryspots so it was worth it and much cheaper tha a new saddle. good luck Linda correctly, that indicates saddle is too tight there. We are in a full Q/H bars roping saddle. I have another saddle, also full Q/H roping but slightly wider. Am I on the right track? I was riding with a Professional Choice Air saddle pad. Kind of a cordura backing with black furry stuff next to skin, but thin. Maybe different pad? The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
