Fjord "Colts" Update
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello everyone, I just spoke with Gunnar tonight, they have the Fjords offloaded, in their own paddock with hay, water, and salt blocks. He said they are doing just fine and started to already perk up! No signs of coughing or runny nose which is what all of us who transport look for. However, we have a surprise! We have ONE colt (suspected to be gelded but not verified) and TWO fillies! The colt and one of the fillies Gunnar is convinced are purebreds, the other filly appears to be a Fjord/Quarter horse cross. All three have had hoof care in the past although they are in need of it now and all three have had their manes trimmed in the past, although they have been growing out. Gunnar and Kim now believe, after seeing them next to their own Fjords, believe them to be more long yearlings, close to two year olds. They do not seem as sad now that they are able to move about and see other Fjords, although they do not know what hay is! Gunnar put out a 4x4 round bale of good grass hay for them and instead, they are pawing through the snow trying to eat the dead grass. So, these guys must have been raised or kept on range, although it is a mystery right now as to why 3 young Fjords, with obvious care given to them previously through the trimming of manes and hooves, would have had to have gone through such a horrid experience in their young lives. Gunnar and Kim really came through for us with flying colors, they literally dropped everything when I called, with Gunnar even going so far as to drive over to Owen Sound last night to make sure he would be there in time, while Kim held down the fort. I cannot wait to see the pictures either, but they are tired! Tomorrow is another day for everyone, especially the Fjords! Lynda C. This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello everyone, Kim just called, the TWO colts (not verified yet) and ONE filly (verified) arrived about an hour ago! She says they are just fine, except they are acting very shocked-almost lethargic- and she says they look very sad. Hopefully when they figure out they are going to be fed and treated well, in a few days they will feel better. We are also asking Kim and Gunnar to be on the look out for shipping fever, those two are going to be busy for awhile! Pictures are coming tomorrow. This is the fastest Kim could get someone with a digital to go over to their farm. Lynda C. Fjord Colts Update, Phone Call
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello everyone, I just received a phone call from the man at the slaughter facility I was working with in Ontario. He said he was really surprised at how nice these colts were and he was very pleased we were able to take them. He also said he would DEFINITELY call me in the future when he saw more Fjords. He said it was a pleasure to work with both Gunnar and myself. This is EXCELLENT news, we were able to not only save the Fjords, but also accomplished establishing the beginning of a good relationship with this man not only from the beginning of the transaction, but were able to maintain this throughout. This is SO important for future dealings, I am very happy about this. Lynda C. Fjord Colts Update
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello everyone, Gunnar has the Fjord colts on board and is headed back to his farm! He says he believes they are either older weanlings or yearlings, all three look fine and were quite calm considering their ordeal although they have not been handled much. Gunnar is also convinced they are purebred Fjords. What an adventure they have endured! Kim says she is going to take pictures today, although she is not sure if she can get them to us today, could be tomorrow before we can actually see them. Bloodwork is scheduled for Friday, so after the first of the year they will be coming here to be DNA tested, scanned, and adopted out. Thanks to all for your untiring efforts; generous donators, Bonnie Rieber, Kim and Gunnar Rogstad, and the UEF officers and directors for saving these three Fjords! Lynda C. He says the Fjords will be there sometime tonight! We will be able to have our representative in Ontario pick them up tomorrow, they will be working out directions this evening. We have already wired the funds to our representative, so everything is set! We are not allowed to take cameras there, unfortunately, but maybe he will be more lenient on that in the future, one never knows! I asked if he knew how the Fjords were doing and he said fine and that they have been offloaded twice for food and water since Sunday. I must admit, this one is a hard one for me to swallow. I had to of course remain calm, but to think, those poor boys have only been fed and watered TWICE since Sunday??? Each layover was for 10 hours a piece, apparently this is a law in Canada that must be observed. So, at least they got two breaks. Our representatives in Ontario will be taking pictures for us and will have the vet out to do the necessary work on Monday, although they are going to make sure the vet is aware of the possibility of an emergency visit tomorrow in case there is an injury. As soon as I hear more I will get back with you. Thanks to all of you for helping to save these Fjords! Lynda C.
