Re: High Quality, Well-Trained Fjord Wanted
This message is from: Mariposa Farm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Carol, Thanks for responding to my post. I'm interested in looking futher at Iceman. You are right, the pictures weren't all that great on his page. When you get a chance to make a video of him performing what I had outlined I'd love to see it. I've had one other promising response and it's good to know that some of these horses are out there. Thanks again, Mark Arthur Rivoire wrote: This message is from: "Arthur Rivoire" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -- I'm addressing this to all of you, not just Mark who specifically asked for such a horse. This message is from: "Arthur Rivoire" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -- I'm addressing this to all of you, not just Mark who specifically asked for such a horse. This is such a special horse, I thought I'd give everybody a heads up. We've just gotten in one of the nicest, kindest, most appealing Fjords we've ever had, and guess what? He's one of ours come home --- At least for a little while. He's BDF ICEMANN sired by Gjest, out of Maggitul, a Solar daughter. -- Icemann is 13 years old, and a gelding. We sold him as a 3 yr. old, and he stayed in that home doing trailriding and being a family horse. Then approximately three years ago, he was purchased by Lori Albrough who kept him and trained him in dressage for about 8 months. Lori tells me that she worked him extensively on the flat and on trails and he was a very good horse. -- His present owner has done very little with him, but he has been extremely well cared for, and looks great. BDF Icemann just arrived at our farm on Monday as a consignment horse. We started him out on Tuesday, and right from the beginning it was heartwarming to see how much this horse likes people, attentiion, and work. -- He's truly a jewel of a horse. I haven't measured him yet, but he's got unusually high withers. In fact, I've never seen a Fjord with such pronounced withers. Gjest also has very good withers, but Icemann's are more so. I'm guessing 14.2 hands. He's very big boned like Gjest, but he looks like a typical Solar offspring, which is hard to describe but has a lot to do with a certain "rosy" color they have. One of our young interns rode him today, and pronounced - "This is the nicest horse I've ever worked with". -- I don't yet have a video of Icemann as he's just arrived, and would like to wait a couple of weeks to make one. Anyone interested can look him up on the Pedigree Search Page and see pictures of him with his present owner. They're not the best photos, but you can see what a big, strong horse this is. Anyone with an interest in this horse, please contact me personally to discuss him. We need some better trained Fjords out there representing our breed. Hi Mark- I am actually glad that one cannot buy a Fjord "tomorrow" so easily, because that would mean we were as overpopulated as QHs. There are plenty of well trained Fjords out there working, showing, or just providing pleasure, and we're not letting go of them! Also, few are willing to pay what a well broke horse is worth. Many at my barn are becoming seriously interested in Fjord ownership, and I of course encourage this. One lady said, "I looked all over the web but they are so expensive!" I said, "So what do you consider expensive?" Turns out her budget is $3k and she wants a trained horse safe for her young daughter. I told her as politely as possible that such a horse of any pure breed does not exist. On that note, Mark, there is a horse here in my area who may fit your bill. His name is Majson's Bjmer. He was bred and started by Gayle Ware and is now owned by Leela Standahl. High quality well trained Fjord wanted!!
This message is from: Mariposa Farm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I'm going to run this "want ad" again just in case some of you haven't seen it. I'd love to get some responses from people who have this horse and would consider selling him. It's sad that I can buy a QH tomorrow that does all this and not a Fjord! We need some better trained Fjords out there representing our breed. Thanks, Mark Hello- This is Mark McGinley of Mariposa Farm in northern Wisconsin. Mariposa Farm is a small riding and boarding stable and we raise Fjords as well. I'm also on the NFHR board and am currently your Vice President (for you NFHR members). Here at our riding stable we offer lessons and training and we are the only barn in the area that provides these services for western riders. We also bring these kids (and adults) to area shows and help them either with their horses or our own. We do have English trained riders and horses here as well just so you know we don't discriminate I'm looking to purchase a "been there done that" highly trained Fjord horse for our lesson program. We want to stop using our Arab and QH's for lessons and get these kids riding Fjords instead. We want them to fall in love with Fjords and not our Arab! We don't breed Arabs! We have 6 Fjords right now but they are either young stock or mares that are often bred (and go in and out of training and condition). I've got a couple of youngsters coming up in the ranks who will be great for our program but we don't want to wait 2-3 more years for our clients to be able to ride and show Fjords. We do realize the value of this horse and even more, appreciate the value that it would bring to our barn. If you know someone that wants to part with their perfect Fjord we'd be interested in talking to them. Below is a list of requests that the horse would need to have / perform. Wanted: Exceptionally well trained Fjord gelding. Needs to be safe, sound, and healthy. Western trained for immediate use in lesson and show program for established equestrian center. Our students are beginners through intermediate / advanced. Horse must be conformationally correct with no vices. NFHR registered or able to be registered. We would prefer the horse to be under 14 years old. We'd like some size to this horse and he should be at least 14.1 hands or taller. We would like to see a video of the horse performing the following: 1. Walk, trot, lope in a round pen or on lunge line with verbal commands, both directions with no editing. 2. Same again with young rider. 3. Same again with young rider in arena. Horse must have correct leads and have easy going, relaxed and balanced gaits. 4. Same again with adult rider 5. Video of horse in a Halter Class or Showmanship Class with a young handler. Doesn't have to be actual show but should include other horses in arena. 6. Video of at least a 15 minute lesson on horse with a beginner rider no editing 7. Again with intermediate rider. 8. Any other video that you think highlights your horse. Any driving training will be considered a plus but not necessary. Vet check and health history required. We prefer a brown dun as our first choice. Thanks, Mark K.
