La Crosse Evaluation
This message is from: Linda Syverson Kerr syversonsfjordl...@yahoo.com This email is posted by Linda Syverson Kerr @ syversonsfjordl...@yahoo.com Hello Everyone.. Spring will soon be here right! I hope so, already getting my horse show schedule and clinics on the calendar. That is the purpose of this email. I am trying to inform all those interested that we are looking to have an NFHR sponsored evaluation to be held in West Salem, WI @ the La Crosse County Fairgrounds. The dates for this event are Friday, August 21 till August 23, 2009. I am asking anyone who is thinking they might attend with a horse or two, to please email me @ syversonsfjordl...@yahoo.com. I ask that you please provide me with the # of horse(s) that you might bring, and if you are looking to do (number of confirmation, performance tests, young stock). While we understand that August is a long way off, in order for us to book the fairgrounds, we need an understanding of how many horses and tests we can expect. If we are not able to hold at the Fairgrounds, we do have a alternative site that can only host up to 10-12 horses. Therefore, if we go to an alternate site, it will be first come bases. So please as the site host, I ask to please let me know you interest so I can pass on the evaluation committee. I know some have already made contact with me, and I thank you for that. If anyone has any questions please contact me again at syversonsfjordl...@yahoo.com or my cell 608-780-4431. Re: La Crosse Evaluation
This message is from: Joan griffin [EMAIL PROTECTED] I attended the LaCrosse, WI Evaluation with Patti Walter this past week-end and as Patti said in her message, it's always a good time when you are with Fjords and Fjord Folk! Patti also meantioned that we stayed with my sister, Rosie, and yes, Patti was treated like a princess getting the ultimate, pillow-top mattress and the fluffy, white, guest towells-what I give up for my friends! LOL! Anyway, this was the first time my sister attended an evaluation and she was very interested in the valuable information that Wayne and Brian shared on how to judge a horse. Also the horses that were presented were so drop, dead, gorgeous that my sister wanted to take them all home! She is excited about the breed and hopes to own one someday. I know my sister, and if she does get one Fjord, the potatoe chip bug will bite and she will end up with more than one! But my point is that it is a good idea to bring people who don't own a Fjord to an evaluation to find out what they are about. Patti did a phenomenal job with Berit at the evaluation. I still cannot believe she just started her in Jan.! Awesome job, Patti! Berit is a blue in my book too! And all of us in our group watching the Western test agreed that Patti looked like a Rodeo Queen-just beautiful! Joni Griffin The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw

Re: La crosse evaluation
This message is from: Pat Holland [EMAIL PROTECTED] Since no one has stepped up to report anything on the Lacrosse Evaluation I would like to do so. First I would like to congratulate Linda Syverson-Kerr and John Gurtner. If they completed their driving tests like they did their conformation, riding and draft they would have received their S1 - G1. I am certain they did as Spruce Hill Markus was right on the money I believe this would make him the first S1 -G1 completed in ONE Evaluation. Markus was bred by Andrew Hinrich's and is by Sven II. Bottom side goes back to Anvil's Jon. Unrau's breeding. Linda and Markus has shared a great partnership and it was nice to see them with John Gurtner and - and what a combined team. !! Fair Acres Ole achieved his Gold 2 - going this year for his advanced riding and draft. True to form Ole did his job and gave his big big heart to the work put in front of him, Ole is surely one of the greats. He has the stallion presence - but the manners of a kind gentleman. Patti Jo has herself a winner in anyone's book. You cannot beat his disposition and willingness to do as asked. I will once again say if you want disposition - call Patti Jo for a booking to Oleyou'll have it hands down. For those of you familiar with the Solar son I presented for Susan Crawford he got approved with a 9 on his head, 8.5 on neck and body and an 8.5 on type and an 8.5 on overall. Many of you do not know his history and I feel it is important to tell it. As it is unique. When this very wonderfully bred horse was a yearling he contracted EHV or more commonly known as Rhino. It can come in many forms - usually you all would see it in respiratory or in a pregnant mare abortive. In rare cases it will go neurological. For Eiken Var it went the worse. He was actually paralyzed in all four, according to the documentation from the U of Illinois - he should have died. Our Fjords are tuff ones and all he retained from it was an uneasy movement behind of which he only received a 4 in his walk and a 5 in his trot. Because of his outstanding conformation he still took score enough to receive a good red - and I was proud to be on the end of the lead rope to get it for him. Last year I presented his daughter, SFF Ebba and she received a blue with a 8.75 in the walk and a 8.25 at the trot. - she also earned her S-white and G white at this years evaluation for owners Deb and Gary Gunther and rider Bambi Bays. Somehow along the line I've been fortunate to have stood in front of 15 blue level conformation horses, I was just as proud, maybe more so to take the red with Eiken Var. He is 11 years old and not been off his home farm but twice, once to go to the U of Illinois and once to the MWFHC winter meeting clinic held many years ago in Galena. I Only had him since May 14th - he had no formal training and he also was a gentleman to handle and work with. Lastly, Peggy Spear brought her beautiful Blue Bird Lane Sparrow and took a very honest and solid blue. Sparrow is by Gjest and showed his great presence and heritage. Once again showing the Gjest line is here to stay and the foundation he brought to the Fjord breed is without question correct, with high quality and important. Pat Holland
La Crosse Evaluation
This message is from: Norsk Wood Works [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Phillip Odden. The preliminary sign up period for the La Crosse evaluation to be held August 6 and 7th at the La Crosse County Fairgrounds at West Salem Wisconsin indicates we have enough horses to hold the evaluation. This will be the third consecutive year an evaluation has been held at this facility. People can still sign up their horses to be evaluated but they must ask Mike May, at the NFHR office, to send them a registration form for the evaluation. Those who are interested in learning more about the evaluation process and what the evaluators are looking for regarding the Norwegian Fjord Breed Standards are welcome to attend. Conformation tests will be held on Saturday and there may be some performance tests on Saturday as well. The remaining performance tests will be held on Sunday. Horses will be tested in draft, driving, English and Western riding. The evaluators will be Mr. Wayne Hipsley and Mr. Pat Wolfe. Phillip Odden

Please contact me if you are planning to have horses evaluated at La Crosse this summer. I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the evaluation process.
La Crosse Evaluation Mare class
This message is from: Norsk Wood Works [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message is from Phillip Odden The official NFHR evaluation held near La Crosse Wisconsin is finished and the official results will be published along with a picture of the animal in the new record book which will be available late this year. Sharon Makurat and Wayne Hipsley were the evaluators. I believe there were 30 horses there. The first group of 16 mares three years of age and older was interesting. Each animal was evaluated individually by the two judges. The process seemed to take 15 to 20 minutes for each horse. After each mare was evaluated and the scores were tabulated all the mares returned to the ring and were circled for all to see once again. Wayne brought each mare into the center of the ring and spoke in general terms about the horse pointing out interesting aspects of the animal's conformation and movement at the walk or trot. The owner was then awarded the appropriate ribbon and given a copy of the each evaluators score sheets complete with official written comments and scores. At one point in the presentation Wayne had three animals in the ring spaced head to tail. The first was a very large fjord in every way. Her name was Gamla. Yet she was balanced and was very typie. She was presented in a fit condition. Her muscles were toned from use. This horse was unmistakably the old type, or draft type. She received a strong blue ribbon and certainly deserved it. This horse had the nicest longest hip I have ever seen on a fjord and a very nice neck to balance the body. Her head was big but in good proportion to her body. And she had the kindest, large, dark eye. Of the other two mares standing with the large mare one was of medium build and the other was a lighter built mare. Wayne pointed out that all three had similar top lines and proportions. They all looked as a fjord should look or in other words they were good examples of fjord type, though each horse represented a different segment of fjord body size. Wayne also gave us a lesson in movement. Pat Holland was showing a light built fjord that walked very free with long over-steps. Another horse was also asked to walk out, this fjord with a different body style. It too walked with free movement but not quite as free as the horse Pat was showing in conformation. When the performance tests started I was thrilled to see Gamle was entered in riding, driving and draft tests. The horse and owner did an outstanding job. It was easy to see that Gamla was trainable and could move well. I am not certain of exactly which ribbons she won at the introductory and advanced levels. I know she had both blue and red. The results will be in the record book. In the performance tests there were the big bodied horses as well as the lighter styles. I could see no difference in body style equating to trainability. Some of the heavy horses were not willing to do the tests and some of the medium horses were not willing and some of the lighter horses were not willing. There were drafty horses such as Gamla that did well, there were medium style horses that did well and there were lighter horses that did well. I just wanted to say a little more about the Gamla horse because she was so special. Gamla is Rokida's Gamla bred by Ron and Kit Davis. Ron recently passed away. There are quite a few of the Rokida horses in my neck of the woods. Ron and Kit were interested in the draft style fjord and had a very sucessful breeding program. Gamla is an outstanding example of a quiet tempered, willing, draft style fjord. She was rewarded high scores at the evaluation because she deserved them. Gamla is a Norwegian word that means 'Old'. One more thing about Gamla. Gamla was a rescue horse rescued and shown now by Karen Klearman. Her rescue price was next to nothing. With her official NFHR conformation and performance scores she is worth a whole lot of money.
