MN Horse Expo
This message is from: Linda Lottie horselo...@hotmail.com Hello Fellow Fjord Friends The MN Horse Expo was simply..FUN!!! The horses were fabulous - people friendly - weather crappy (good grief, where IS spring???) .and, another successful expo under our belt. Kristin Lee and I first attended the expo years ago with one fjord and now we have a dozen or more. Riders, drivers - all ages. The crowd LOVES our fjord horses!!! As a spectator myself I see first hand that our group does a VERY nice job presenting their horses to an adoring crowd. The sense of community within our wonderful group of fjord owners is why we look forward to attending the expo with joy and purpose. Thank you to all participants. Kristin and I are incredibly proud of everyone and appreciate the friendship and caring you bring to the program. Oh, and did I say we had FUN? Yep, just FUN, FUN, FUN!!! This message is from: Linda Lottie User [EMAIL PROTECTED] Good story/sharing Carol.I did same. Enjoyed days of driving Svengave an intro to driving lesson to a gal I met who wants a horse. She is a polio victim and while she wants to rideintroducing her to driving was eye opening. Sven was a sweetieshe loves him, of course:) Hope to see many of you at the MN HORSE EXPO this weekend. We can always use help at our information table.and, heading as we go in and out to present the fjords. Come hang out for awhile.it's fun!!! This year we have our traditional and wonderful brown dun fjords, Phil Odden's gray stallion and, Susan Cargill's white dun mare. Next year, all colors? Working on it:) SEE YOU AT THE EXPO..Linda Baker Lottie Kristin Lee On 4/25/06 6:22 AM, Carol Makosky [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This message is from: Carol Makosky [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi, I hope all of you are getting out and about with your Fjords in our nice weather in the midwest. I just have to tell of the wonderful weekend I had driving my Heidi. First on Sat., I drove her about 5 or 6 miles to our annual town meeting. Saving on gas you know. She had an hr. rest there and then off we went to my friends place, which was about 10 miles, I think. We did that in a little over an hr. Then on Sun. I hauled her to my other friends weekend place with many acres and hilly cross country ski trails for more driving. So our little group consisted of me driving and two riders. We had so much fun and the weather was perfect with few bugs, nice breezes and sunny. I am so proud of Heidi and how well she did on all the up and down hills. I love the thrill of her charging up a hill at a good canter or trot. There were some short water places we could have crossed but I was leary of the depth and other issues, so we went around them. After an hour or so break and lunch we went back out. This time we headed for some state land with many snow mobile trails. We could have gone on forever, but some had trees down across and one had a steep grade sign or warning. We decide to see just how steep this hill was and had a good laugh. It was a lot less steeper than the ones on her property. So down we went and traveled this trail until time to head back to pack up and call it a day. I also had to go through a small rough area with only saplings in the way to get around a gate onto the state land. Heidi does not bat an eye or hesitate one bit when asked to go through. On our way back we weren't quite sure where we cut through, but Heidi knew exactly where it was. I held the lines up and very slack just to show the others that I did not guide her. We call it a horses natural GPS. So in ending, I hope everyone else is having as much fun as we did that day. Frankly I had to almost pinch myself to know I was not dreaming of the great time had last weekend. See you all at BE or Winona and that is coming up sooner than we know.

This message is from: Derrice Skow [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello everyone, just got back from the Minnesota Horse Expo, and it was once again a great time. Just thought I would say that everyone involved with fjords there did a great job! They were well represented, and the stalls looked great! It was really nice to see some more fjords there this year, and seeing all their wonderful abilities. Once again, a great job representing our breed Zephanie Skow [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This message is from: Warren Stockwell [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hey Linda, I only live about 1 hr. from the fair grounds, so my family knows I go for the education and I try to go one day alone. Last year Hannah was in the fashion show, how cute but it created a monster!!! At 8 she is already a clothes horse!! It is a business expense for me because I farm sit for my job, and I am responsible for lots of horses. If their aren't any classes I am interested in than I don't go all 3 days, and I try to not stay to long or to early. My critters need care to. I think if you look at your books I have spent a bit of change at All Things Fjord last year. I gotta get me one of those Fjord hooded sweatshirts that's my next purchase. Everytime I get a fjordie something everyone else wants one, I can't afford 5 of everything. So I will be around so whatever is needed I am open. Do you stay in the cities? Thanks so much for your offer - we will just let you know as time draws near and during the expo - yes, much better to visit and inform than to shop - except at All Things Fjord More!, ya know:):):) haha!! Re: MN Horse Expo - Trainers!!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, DeeAnna.this trainer list will prove very valuable to expo people and the list in general. I often feel a situtation like yours is not uncommon.working with a trainer is a delicate dance .. so having information on trainers that actually enjoy working with fjords is a start in the right direction. Best to you and your fjords; Linda
Re: MN Horse Expo - Trainers!!
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] My enthusiastic recommendation is: Jill Niederberger Pine River Ranch W3078 County Road A Pine River WI 54965 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 920-867-4556 After years (yes, years!!) of getting no call backs from the local trainers in northeast Iowa and getting discouraging words from trainers who don't think horses over 2 years old can learn anything, we were about to give up. I got the distinct impression that if it wasn't a Paint, Arab or Quarter Horse baby, local trainers just weren't going to bother. We ~~finally~~ got Jill's name in early 2002 from another Fjord owner as someone who actually likes working with Fjords and would accept older horses. We trailered Finn (age 5) and Toupen (age 12) to her place this past summer, and they spent 2 months with her learning to be riding horses. She is fiftysomething, although you'd never know it -- so she's got a lot of experience and common sense. She uses a blend of natural horsemanship techniques -- whatever she needs to communicate with a particular horse -- and wants very much to work with the owners in the training process. Toupen had some issues that she found challenging, but she did very well in figuring out what was going on and working with him appropriately. For instance, how do you train an experienced, older driving horse to work comfortably in an open bridle and tolerate seeing a rider and other things moving behind him? How do you get him to accept working alone, when he always worked in a team? She dun gut with him. We live about 5 hours away, but I made weekly trips at first, then bi-weekly trips to work with her and the boys. I learned a lot and so did our Fjords. It was worth every penny and all the hours of driving! DeeAnna

MN Horse Expo participation
This message is from: Kathy Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Fjord list-- I am one of those lurkers from Minnesota. I purchased my first two fjordies in 2/01and now I am up to 5 (3 mares and 2 geldings) fjordies and expecting in June. I have enjoyed the comments regarding the number of stalls in your barn versus the number of horses. It seems I always manage one more horse than stalls. Fortunately, I have a husband that keeps letting me add on to our barn. I am a therapeutic driving instructor with We Can Ride here in MN. Besides doing our program demonstration,We CAn Ride participated in the parade of breeds mentioned by Linda Lottie with two of our awesome therapy fjordsKarin (purchased from Linda Hickam, Idaho in 2/01) and Rorik's Gunnernew to our program in 2/02. These two horses were fantastic ambassadors for the breed. Our stalls were such that the horses could have their heads over the gatesthey thoroughly enjoyed all of the petting, oohing and aahing. People especially loved running their hands through the manes! When they had had enough attentionthey just turn their butts to the audience...and it didn't happend very often! Loving the Viking history exchange...being based in the land of Vikings and all. The list is a great resource...thank you so much! This message is from: Pasqual, Tish [EMAIL PROTECTED] In case anyone needs a trainer, I have been very satisfied with Dick Kiesner in Buffalo, MN. Linda Lotti recommended him to me and I am happy with his handling of my Elph and also with the driving/riding instruction I have been receiving. (Linda also advised that I name the trainer that I alluded to in an earlier post, thanks Linda!) As far as school projects and other internet legends and myths go, do check out this website before you pass along some of the things that come across your e-mail: http://urbanlegends.about.com/science/urbanlegends/cs/computers/index.htm Someone is tracking all of these oddities, petitions, and chain mail. Personally I agree with Steve. I belong to two lists and I just don't have time to read this type of thing, especially on a list that is supposed to be somehow related to Fjords. Finally, did anyone happen to get pictures of Michael Scott with BDF Naveta at the Horse Expo? He was supposed to do some demonstration driving with Muffy Seaton. I was unable to go to any of it, but Dave McWethy had suggested that a photo be sent to the Herald, which seems like a very good idea. Tish and Elphineas in Minneapolis

This message is from: Pasqual, Tish [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Carol! and list! I have recently changed jobs and was off lists for about a month and a half. I have missed hearing about everyone. Am just back on. I am hoping to get to the Horse Expo, Muffy Seaton, driver extradinaire is going to be giving clinics, and Michael Scott and Miss Naveta will be demo-ing, so I really want to catch that. EWF Elphineas is doing very well, he survived the winter FAT (because he runs with a herd of Arabs who run while he watches them, munching all the hay, it must be like watching tv for him). I can't seem to figure out how to keep him trim in the winter (the snow was so deep this year, you'd think that would have helped some, but no!)I may have to move him to a place with an indoor arena. Anyway, he is going to the trainer next week for a couple of months and certainly that will help, along with being able to work him now that the weather is improving and the snow mostly gone (leaving massive amounts of mud, thank you).We will be driving and refining our riding when we work with the trainer, and will have access to 300 acres of rolling, gentle hills and beautiful trails for both activities. I bought a new easy entry cart, very sturdy with motorcycle tires and springs, so I am really looking forward to the club drives this year. Hope to make the one in June in fact. I am hoping to see lots of folks at Blue Earth this year, we are planning to make it for the show (but not the evaluations). I think this year I should have the courage to show in green riding and driving, not like last year where I only showed in halter due to extreme nervousness! Hope everyone is well, Tish and Elphineas in Minneapolis

Ron Kit Davis (Rokida Fjords) are bringing their grey stallion, Nicklaus and also said they would be set up to do some driving demonstrations. Fjord owners will be there too. I know of several people who own Fjords that are going. Hope to see as many of you as can make it! This will be my hubby's first time to the Minnesota Horse Expo, and I can't wait to show him all those horsey things. I'll have to remember to bring a hankerchief along so he won't drool over all those shiny new trailers. To Peg Knutson: Great story! Glad Pepper was O.K. Somehow, I see her standing in the cabin, with a smug smile on her face while everyone was frantically looking for her. I use to hide like that as a kid.
