I don't know what to do, but would like to help out a friend. As you know,
Merek lost his beloved horse, Lars recently. He's bereft. And is really
wanting the support of the fjord community, and wants to buy another pony.
He's
sent emails that have gone unanswered to try to get reinstated. I sent an
email
to you Cynthia, and I don't know if you got it or not. I never got an answer
either. In the meantime, Merek is going through this time of crisis without
the support that I know he could use from the wonderful members of this list.
Is there anybody who can tell me what Merek needs to do to get signed up
again here? I'll be happy to relay the information on to him.

Thanks!

This is from Joel Harman.

I log & farm with my horses. They are not my pets. PMU ranchers have
horses that are not their pets -they are their livelihoods.

I am very happy that some consider their horses pets. Yrs. ago a woman
would not sell me a fat, lazy, spoiled gelding because she was afraid I
would work it. Her name is irrelevant. That was her opinion. I
respected it but did not agree with it.

I get REAL TIRED of folks bashing farmers & ranchers. They don't tell you

Merek - Foot and Mouth Disease in UK

2001-02-27 Thread Dave 2001

This message is from: "Dave 2001" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Dear Merek,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your concern as to the welfare of the
UK's Norwegian Fjord horse population following reports of the outbreak of
Foot and Mouth Disease in our country.

As you should know by now, horses are NOT affected by this virus so no
horses in the UK (or anywhere else) will be shot by anyone!

However, this matter is a very serious one indeed as there are now fifteen
confirmed cases in England and one in Wales. So far, the virus has not
reached Scotland or Ireland, and we are praying that it doesn't!

I can reassure you that everyone involved with the countryside is trying to
ensure that this terrible disease is brought to a halt in the areas that are
affected. Nobody wants this situation to worsen as not only will thousands
of pigs, cows, sheep, goats etc be slaughtered and their carcasses burned,
but many farmers and other businesses linked to farming will be financially
ruined.

There is now a restriction in place throughout the UK regarding the movement
of animals (including horses) until 16th March, 2001. Let us hope that this
course of action helps bring about the end of this terrible virus - if not,
we are in trouble deep!

With good wishes,

David Stewart

RE the saddles, PLEASE, share it with all of us!! I'm having a hard time

leaves huge dry spots on either side of his withers. I'm going to try some
'wither
shims' but if they don't work, the saddle has to go, so I'm also very
interested in
the types of saddles that people have had good luck with - I ride Western so if
anyone
has any specific input in that area I'd be thrilled. Unfortunately I also don't
have
much over $600 to spend on a saddle, hence needing to not buy saddle after
saddle to
discover they don't fit worth a fig. Tyr would appear to me to be a drafty type
fjord, very modest withers and short backed. Any help from anyone would be
greatly
appreciated.

I think the picture makes Lars look a bit darker than actual, but he is a
fairly deep beige normally, not a lighter yellow. He is also quite recognized
by the public on Long Island. Tens of thousands of the locals have seen him
at various functions, and remember him when he appears at other events. The
children all know his name at the parades year to year. I know for a fact
that no less than four factions at or connected to the stable crowd are
waiting for me to check out so they can haggle over who gets him for pony
party business. He has his reasons for looking that way, as the most readily
recognized horse on the Island. Merek
