This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Lindsay, "What do you have to say?" is a good prompt. The "unfriendly one" who went so far yesterday letting me hold his sweet head for one split second. Poor guy is losing his battle of aloofness. I can now also give him apples by hand and he does not tear pockets off etc. This boy is also out of Grabb directly and Guldua mare (the beautiful one) Altho he is seventeen he does not show any signs of aging as does my big Trakehner by Gallant. My Holsteiner mare is out of Constitution a very great stallion now deceased from a penicillin shot. Gone too far haven't I? My doggies are also purebreds but then there is Lucy the barn cat who is forever trying to become a house cat. But she is off the streets of Aberdeen. Shocking Altho I am not a breeder, and will never be as I can not let anything go (you should see the house) I find it quite interesting to learn and recognize the great and not so well known stallions and mares. I still think it is a better idea when you see a horse excel to breed to the parentage of that horse rather than the one you know. I have bred for my two warmbloods and did quite well, but have not used them to the extent of their abilities. I just enjoy them. This is difficult for achievers to contend with. Sometimes I get a pang when I know where they could have gone in their dressage field. Myself included. Gorgeous weather here, this is the summer we did not have. Must ride Gunnar today in the field. Jean > Hello Jean, When I read your post complimenting the photo of Stovar on the NFHR web page I figured some of you out there in Fjord cyber space would be interested to know the bloodline of Stovar! Most likely almost everyone on the list (foreigners included!) will recognize Stovar's sire SOLAR and his dam Sigrid, whose is by GRABB! What a pedigree!! What a real Fjord!!! Stovar is owned by Michelle and David Bigelow and was a star at the Woodstock show again this year as a four year old. Stovar was shown successfully under western tack, in draft harness, over fences (little ones, age appropriate, of course!) and in hand. Michelle has trained him herself and shown him since he was a foal. I love following the bloodlines and hope somebody else does, too! We owe a debt of gratitiude to the European breeding countries that sent us stallions like Grabb and Solar (both these stallions are of Norwegian birth and Solar was also standing in Holland before comming to North America). Grabb has sinced passed on but leaves behind a genetic treasure trove for the serious Fjord Horse breeder to utilize and Solar at 22 is still going strong being shown and winning in open competitions for riding, driving, and draft. While I could go on and on, I won't P.S. maybe this post will spur on a round of talk concerning some of our other well established bloodlines, what do you have to say? Have you seen the one I have up there of "Stovar" playing the "Kill the Rag" game? Here is a link to it: http://www.nfhr.com/gallery/hrs035lg.jpg All I need is the pictures. I can't put them up if I don't have them. Maybe even with a little plug for "clicker training." (I know, I'm insufferable on the subject - just think clicker training can be so helpful to Fjord owners that I cannot help myself). Sorry we don't do any advertising on the site. There are so many different training methods that all I can see is problems if one of them is plugged and not another of them. And, while we are at it, doesn't Karen McCarthy train her babies to teeter totter? :) I don't know. Karen? Mike
