There are 4 NFHR registered breeders in OH, none of whom I can imagine would
be consigning stock to an auction. I've never heard of any other Fjord
breeders in the state, not to say that they might not be out there
somewhere.

Be aware that the auctions held in the Sugarcreek/Mt. Hope/Kidron area
(Holmes County, OH) draw people and stock from all over the country so if it
were true the source wouldn't have to be local. On a recent trip to the
area I talked with one of the local carriage makers and he was unfamiliar
with Fjords - on description he decided that his Haflinger-size equipment
would probably work for them, and that they're probably lots more expensive
than the carriage horses he usually works with since he hadn't seen any yet!

I'll be calling the Sugarcreek Livestock Auction house during their normal
business hours tomorrow and will gladly go to the auctions if necessary to
check - we don't live all that far from Sugarcreek and we're always happy
for an excuse to go have a look in.

(I'm a longtime lurker on this list - we don't have any Fjords yet but we
will before too long!)

Gail,

What I heard through this rumor is that at this OH auction, Fjords get run
through at a regular basis and sold at $600-$800. I was asked if there was a
large breeder in the area.

I was told that there was a very nice Fjord gelding at the Turlock in CA
auction, but that he bucked off his rider and was not sold. Apparently the
prices on all horses were extremely low. It sounded like all of the Fjords
had been "no-saled" because the prices were so low.

Hello everyone,

I have just heard the oddest rumor, so thought I would ask all of you about
this. Supposedly there is an auction in OH called Sugarcreek, or something
similar. Apparently, there have been quite a number of Fjords being sold
through this auction at very low prices. Does anyone know anything about
this?
