I am bordered by numerous old order Amish that are down here from Canada.
My neighbors certainly do recognize them!! And know they are call Norwegian
Fjords before I ever said! Their relatives back in the middle of Canada
have some and like them very much! Old Order Amish ( those near here) will
take the papers and not transfer horses, if the animal is sold it is up to
the buyer to ask for the papers and do the transfers.
And yes they young men do drive some flashy bays and blacks! And are given
to a fair amount of drag racing at a neighboring colony! The elders are
quite strict here, no foolishness allowed!!

It's funny that someone would consider a Fjord flashy -- especially
compared to those Haflingers with the snappy knee action and all that
white mane and tail flying about!  LOL

I talked to an Amish man in Wisconsin who believed that Fjords
appeared to be nice using horses, but were probably much too
flashy looking to be used by a good Amish family.

Hi

There is a small Amish community in southwestern Virginia. The member of the
community that makes carts, etc. had a pair of fjords when he lived in Canada
and loved them. He has told me so many wonderful stories of his experiences
with his fjords. This last fall he and two other fellow Amish community
members bought a weanling fjord colt. He is a happy man. Most of the
members in this particular community seem to be really interested in the
fjord breed.

Hi Steve,

I guess from the general consensus, I'm gathering that the reason Fjords
aren't more prevalent within the Amish community is due to their expense.
I can imagine that it's difficult enough as it is trying to keep up with a
farm life and regular farm expenses (including the upkeep of draft animals).
Having Fjords might be (at this point and time) a luxury for some of them. I
know their devotion and use of the Haflinger seems to suit them for the
work/pony stuff.just hope there won't be any future competition between
that breed and the Fjord!

years ago I spoke with an Amish man in Libby at the log cabin

for (I think he wanted something flashy) and was going to make a
point to get to the next year's show. (He hadn't ever heard about
  the show)

When I was looking for driving equipment I talked to a young Amish man - when
I told him I had a fjord he said he wished he could get one. I asked him why
he did not have one - too expensive was his response.

In Wisconsin I have seen a lot of Standard Bred horses used by the Amish
with their buggy's, don't know about their work horses for plowing etc.

I was emailed a question from a Haflinger friend of mine who was curious
to
know about Fjords - and had one question in particular that I couldn't
answer. She wanted to know if anyone knows or has heard of the Amish
using/breeding/or becoming involved with Fjords. I know that their
involvement with draft horses is very deep as is their breeding and
participation of the Haflinger - but didn't know what to say.
