On the other hand, we have a 29 year old Fjord mare
who only 'cycles' in the spring - usually from the end
of May through the first of July.  The past two years
she has only cycled once a year - in late July or
early August.  She is positively obnoxious with the QH
gelding across the fence, so it's easy to tell when
she's in heat.  Possibly that is what is happening
with your old Appy mare.
