Sadie, saddle, book, update from Lindenfels in der Odenwald

2003-04-06 Thread Linda Lehnert
This message is from: "Linda Lehnert" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Grüßen aus Lindenfels in der Odenwald where we have been having a
glorious Frühling (spring) for the last 2 weeks! Peg, I was very sorry to
hear about the loss of your foal, but was glad to hear Sadie is
recovering.  We lost a beautiful Morgan foal to wobbler foal syndrome
less than 12 hours after he hit the ground some years ago and I know how
it feels.  My thoughts and prayers are with you. Linda Wollowitz, I would
be interested in seeing a picture of your Norwegian saddle.  Would it be
possible for you to privately e-mail me a photo? Gail Russell, that book
on e-bay made me homesick.  I grew up with a Norwegian mother and a
German father in a Norwegian Lutheran church and once a year we had a big
dinner and all of the immigrant parishioners wore their national dress.
I can't recall which was better, the food or the company!  Both were
outstanding. Jean Gayle, that book you recommended sounds interesting.  I
will try to find it in the USAREUR library system. I saw the orthopedic
surgeon Tuesday.  He took x-rays and said I have severe arthrosis,
narrowing of the joint interspaces, and showed me a place on each knee
and ankle where the narrowing is especially severea with almost no space
between the joints at that point.  It is aggravated by walking and
standing.  Since I moved, I was doing alot more walking and standing in
my apartment, packing before and then unpacking, which is what triggered
the acute exacerbation.  Fortunately, since this is an arthritic
condition, I do not need any type of surgery, but need to stay down more
(very boring). When I go out, I wear knee braces.   I still do not have
the pain under enough control to try to start riding Ricka.  I
desperately need to get well enough to start riding as the exercise would
be good for my overall physical condition and, as we all know, riding is
fun and relaxing and thus beneficial.  I have an old McClellan saddle (an
original, antique US Army issue made in 1909 at the Rock Island Arsenal),
so I can ride without my feet in the stirrups if having my feet in the
stirrups aggravates the knee and ankle pain.  Or I can always ride
bareback.  Ricka's a good, calm Fjord with a nice wide back, so she's
very suitable for bareback.  I have come to the definite conclusion that
I won't be able to show her.  If I want her shown, I will ask Herr
Wolbert to recruit a teenager to show her for me in western pleasure. Linda

My sincere thanks to all of you who have so kindly expressed your
condolences on our loss of Sadie's foal. So many of you have experienced
similar tragedies, so I know that you truly understand what we all have gone
through. I am relieved and happy to report that Sadie is home now and doing
very well.

Even though we were unable to save the colt, I want to encourage all of you
to be present if possible at any births, as we would have lost Sadie, too,
had she not gotten such prompt attention. Our vets deserve medals! She does,
too, for being able and willing to hobble out of the barn, into the trailer,
out of the trailer, and into the vet's when she was so tranquilized she
could hardly stand. She was amazing.

I will respond privately to those of you who sent such caring emails
directly.

Please accept our deepest thanks - Peg, Doug, and Sadie

Peg - I am so so sorry about Sadie's colt and the terrible time you all went
through in the birthing. Hopefully she will recover with all your good care
and the resources of modern medicine! love, Linda Wollowitz

Vesle Blakka and I have decided that driving is our forte, so I have some
truly fabulous saddles I wish to sell:

One Courbette Dressage Saddle, I think it was called a Futura Grand Prix
Dressage
Black, 17 1/2", Med-Wide Tree. I bought it new at $1250, regularly $1395.
I used it for 18 months on and off, plus at one show in Vt.
Excellent condition, includes leathers and stirrups: $600.

One Courbette Dressage Bridle: Black, plus braided reins and one double
set for upper levels, used at ONE show in Vt. in two classes. The
package was $375.and is
for sale for $200.

One Courbette Futura All-Purpose Saddle, also 17 1/2" Med-Wide Tree. Was
$1223. new, I got it for $1150. It is in excellent condition and includes
leathers and stirrups.
Dark Brown: $525.

These fit fjords perfectly since Julie Will helped me get the right
sizes.
I will have the privilege of riding in her saddle from Norway, but only
out on trails which was our favorite activity together. It's a wonderful
sort-of stock saddle...does anyone who went to Norway remember what kind of
saddle pad/blanket they use?

Also, East Coasters - look for your registration packet for the Finger
Lakes Fjord Horse Show. It should be coming soon to your home/farm. The
show will be on Saturday June 14th AND Sunday morning June 15th until classes
end. Hopefully there will be more info. in the next Fjord Journal as well.
Two four-letter words from Syracuse in April SNOW and RAIN!

Oh Peg!

I am so sad to hear this. At least you saved Sadie, how aweful it to have
gone through this, but how much more aweful if you had lost her.

I hope you can find some comfort knowing you did all you could.

I am heartbroken to have to write that Sadie's delivery was one of those
dystocias you read about, but which never happen to you Her beautiful
colt's head was caught on her pelvic rim and she could not deliver him. We
were able to save her, and will bring her home tomorrow. I hated to leave
her at the hospital, she was so traumatized, shaking from the drugs, and
whinnying.

We were with her from the beginning, and the vets were heroic, but we still
could not readjust that foal's position. He was another lovely brown dun,
like his brother Ari. I hope he is with Julie.

Fjord Shirts and Watches For Sale, and Sadie

2000-10-08 Thread Momster18
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello Fjord Fans-
The Finger Lakes Fjord Horse Show Committee still has some shirts and watches
left over from our show.

The shirts are a golfer style shirt, collar with 3 buttons. On the front is
a two-tone silk-screen image of a Fjord head, tan and black. I think they're
very attractive. The Fjord head was designed by a committee member and her
husband, who is an artist. Price- $20.00 plus S&H of $2.00

The watches have a black vinyl band with an alagator texture and in the
center of the watch's face is the same Fjord Head Design, only in Black and
White.Very attractive as well! Price- $20.00 plus S&H of $2.00.

If you're interested email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Finally, I just wanted to tell Peg Knutsen how much I loved Sadie when she
was at Julie's this past year. She is a lovely horse! Seeing her name
brought back her elegant face in my mind!

OH Sadie

This message is from: "Knutsen Fjord Farm" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi all -

Well, OH Sadie arrived promptly at 6 am [groan] today. She looks
splendid, all dappled and well groomed, and will be another great
advertisement for Mr. MVF Erlend. Her dam is the brown dun mare Bragda
[by Leif], owned by Old Hickory Farm. Sadie, though, is a nice shade of
grey, a little lighter than dad, but with very similar markings. Lots of
stripes. She's a tall girl, about 15 hands, and already has done well on
some training level dressage tests. She brought one of Flotren's newest
offspring along with her, well nestled and invisible, except on the
ultra-sound. Tomorrow we will ride!

Still no baby. I spent most of the night staring, bleary-eyed, at the
foal monitor. Just call me "Sleepless in Ellensburg." [Doesn't have
quite the right ring to it, does it?]

I'm off to bed with foal monitor by my side, wishing the vet weren't out

sweaty, anyway

And OH Sadie, Erlend's 5-year-old daughter [she's so yound to be grey]
arrives at 6 am tomorrow! Omigosh!
