Thanks Lou, this mare has rarely been used and should be contributing to her
keep some way  But I would probably then have four horses just standing
around as I can not let them go.  I had read that if a mare is not bred by
twelve there would be problems.   Jean

 Jean, we had success getting a 15 year old  QH mare in foal, first 
 heat 
 cycle.  I beleive if the mare is in good condition, and showing heat 
 cycles 
 regularly, she is probably viable for breeding.   All you can do is 
 try  :)

Jean,

A mare past 10yrs of age that has never been bred can be tough to get in
foal.  Not impossible, but you should be prepared for some difficulties. 
Once you do get them in foal, then they seem to go a little easier the
next time.  Work with your veterinarian and time the breeding with
ovulation as close as possible.
