I think what you are talking about is what we call "screenings" here and it
is the best.  Ours is not washed hence the dust may come up about a foot as
it is heavy.  The horses feel really sure of their footing with it.  I do
not know your figures of quantity but for my 60 by 100 arena it took eight
truck loads.Jean

 Dead sand is what contractor sell as concrete sand, it is "sharp" sand made
from crushed stone minus the "fines" ( the dust type particle matter) that
is screened, washed and even sized. The recommended sand for addition to
crumb rubber footings I believe is  C -33. 43 tons will cover a 60x120 arena
to a depth of 1.5 inches. the amount of rubber for that size ring is 12 tons
or 26.6 cubic yards.   Recycled rubber rocks! A ring made up entirely of
dead sand is just that, dead. The mix is great.  Our horses are much happier
to play with us now.
