Just wanted to share a bit of fjord-joy. The vet was out today. We have
four horses and one is a Fjord -- my first, purchased this spring from Julie
Will. He needed his teeth floated and held his head down and his mouth open
for the vet, who was almost in shock! He has only seen/worked on one other
Fjord and said he was equally good. Later on today, the gelding (MVF Venn)
and I were riding in the woods -- spooked some deer (they didn't spook US!),
and later got tangled in some vines. Couldn't get out forward or back out,
pretty well wrapped around his hind legs, He tried to shake them off,
gently and then just stood stock still until I could get him untangled.
Lifted feet as asked, stayed quiet as I unwound and pushed them down. My
fault for getting into the pickle in the first place, but HE was absolutely
GOLDEN. In thirty years of riding, I have never had a horse that had it all
as he does -- willing, sensible, strong, moves out beautifully, straight
reins, neck reins, responds beautifully to leg aids, drives like a prince
and jumps willingly and well. I just had to share my joy with those of you
who really know and appreciate the breed, and to publically say Thanks to
Julie for matching us up so well.

I don't know if this is good or bad. When I was young,I bought a
statue of a Fjord thinking it was so beautiful. I never saw any of
these horses in real life for probably 20 years. When I finally saw
them in Wisconsin at the Mid-west Horse Fair,I cried. I am very very
poor, timid rider with little training myself and no horse training
experience. We decided to buy a baby and were lucky enough to meet the
Hotovys. We bought TUF Leka and the whole neighborhood loved her. As I
worked with her growing up,I kept wondering if this is what horse
training was like. Clippers, I don't care. Saddle,I don't care.
Whatever we asked,we never got a bad response. Now I take care of the
farrier, feeding, worming, shots, training and I ask my husband to go to a
judged obstacle ride with me. Leka is four and I wanted to get her out
and about. Well my husband gets first in breed, first in age group,
and reserve champion without ever practicing obstacles at home with
her. I got nothing. I'm never going to hear the end of this, but I'm
proud of both of them. Ellen Davidson in Va.

 Hello Sue,

 Thanks for posting the poem!

I am already there-at least older, than many of you young 'whippersnappers'!
 LOL
But the barn (and horses) keeps beckoning, for years to come, God willing.

 Happy and safe riding/driving!

Mike are you suggesting that Gunnar is hiding dapples under his now Yak like
winter fur? What a terrible thing to say about a Grabb/Guldua get!
But I do like the thought that I might be able to ride across that lovely
field in the moonlight. Romantic!!! :)

No I just had this vision of you out on the midnight ride. I wasn't
suggesting dapples or that he was a mare either for that matter.

Sue,

How old is 'old'? I think some of us are already
there - though we might quibble at being called 'old'
:)) Some of us have been that 'kind of woman' since
our youth, much to the embarrassment of those around
us - hee, hee!!

  When I am Old.
  I shall wear diamonds
And a wide brimmed straw hat
With ribbons and flowers on it
And I shall spend my social security
  On white wine and carrots
And sit in the alley way of my barn
And listen to the horses breathe.
I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night
  And ride the dappled mare
  Across the moonstruck meadow,
If my old bones will allow.
And when people come to call, I will smile and nod,
As I walk them past the gardens to the barn
And show, instead, the flowers growing there
  In stalls fresh-lined with straw.
I will learn to shovel and sweat and
Wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment to all
  Who look down on me
Who have not yet found the peace in being free
To love a horse as a friend,
A friend who waits at midnight hour
With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For the kind of woman that I will be
  When I am old.

I thought you all would enjoy this poem as much as I did.

I just tried it and it worked OK. Make sure you use EXACTLY the same lower
case letters :fjordhorse
and the password: fjords_rule

It has to be exact or it won't work. Did you leave out that _ in the middle
of fjord_horse?

Hope it works for you!

I was just there and it worked for me. Make sure you don't have your caps
lock on. I think it has to be lower case.
