According the Jeanette Gower's book, "Horse Colour Explained,":

"Occasionally, a wither cross is present or transverse lines appear along 
the mane and neck."  (Page 45)  There is also a picture on page 44 of a 
Fjord with these types of lines.

Question for the list: Do fjords ever have vertical
striping on their necks? I know it can occur over the
whithers, but this is definitely on both sides of the
neck.

neck.

I took some friends down to see my fjord Torsten and
noticed (he was standing in the sun) that he has faint
verticle stripes down both sides of his neck. I didn't
notice them before. Thet aren't dirt or dust imprints
from leaning against the fence or some such. What is
going on here? I assume he is not turning into a
zebra.
