Re: good collar, bad hair...
This message is from: Joe Glick [EMAIL PROTECTED] Eileen, I use a driving collar on my Fjords without any problems as long as the collar fits properly. If it's too loose it will rub the hair off. You should be able to put your hand between the bottom of the throat and the collar without squeezing it in. If you can't, then it's too tight. If your hand fits loosely, the collar is too loose. Of course, it will depend on how big your hand is. :) You might have to compensate if you have a really big or small hand. I am working on having a Norwegian style collar made locally. Their collars do not rest on the top of the neck. If I get one made that suits me I'll let everyone know. I'm sure there are more people that would use them if they were available. Hi Eileen, Don't worry about flattening the mane with the collar, it will pop back up the next day and at that place, the mane is not very long. I guess if you are doing a halter class after driving, you can wet it maybe to get it to stand back up when dry. Carol M. On Golden Pond N. Wisconsin

This message is from: Jean Gayle [EMAIL PROTECTED] Eileen I have always cut a narrow bridle path with my fjordies. Just start the are back a bit. I am more concerned with Gunnar's fluff that is alongside the mane seemingly from letting it grow all winter. good collar, bad hair...
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've gotten my mare properly fitted with an all purpose driving collar, but now a new dilema has arisen. Since Fjord owners are so fashion conscious (at least in terms of their horse's manes) I thought I'd come to y'all with a question: What do you do about the mane sticking up and the collar sitting down on the neck? Or for that matter, even the neck strap for a breastcollar? I can't imagine cutting a path (like a bridle path) - that would look awful. Oy, what to do? Eileen in eastern WA
