...make that three years Gail.
Have I got some lonely maresAt a clinic last weekend, Imilie looked
longingly, and with great curiosity at a Holstiener foal frolicking with her
mama in the paddock next to the grass driving arena. Yes, it made me very sad
at that moment that this very good mare is empty right now. A good home is
essential for me as a breeder and right now there are no guarantees, even the
best people are having money i$$ue$.

All I can say (from now being a potential buyer) is that it is a buyer's
market out there.  There are scores of horses available (too many in my
opinion) and as I look for my new partner - I am taking my time and waiting
for a spark to happen.  Several horses out there looking for a home.

I would rather NOT be looking and have my wonder pony by my side for the next
30 years - but reality is - I am sadly looking ... and it's even more sad to
find so many horses that need a home.

just wanted everyone to know how easy it is to order your secret Santa gifts
from the NFHR and have them shipped direct to their home. It was a very easy
process. We placed an order over the weekend and received confirmation that
it was shipped on Monday. it does not cost you any more to have it shipped to
them. you can also leave a note for them if you have any special requests.
hope every one had a great holiday season, merry Christmas and a prosperous

The Horrible Horse (or anything else) Market

2009-02-28 Thread Michele Noonan
This message is from: Michele Noonan fjordl...@hotmail.com

I have to agree with most of the comments made about the reasonable horse
prices and the horrible seller's market.. We didn't see this coming ourselves
until all 4 mares were bred (and one more bought bred) for 2008 babies. Now
we have 4 remaining yearling colts that have not sold and we have them priced
for just under $1000. Not even breaking even. We are hoping to sell them
before I have to spend another $6k on hay this summer... We bred only two
mares last year and both of those babies we are willing to keep and not sell.
We probably will only breed one, two tops (and that will be to sell her) this
year.

We have to re consider how many mares to keep and we have decided to keep our
main mare Tone and only Evaluated mares. Of course our young stallion OFI
Skogen too. but he can't contribute much for a few more years. Hopefully
things will improve in the market or we will have a very flashy gray gelding.

We have to consider the cost of keeping the yearlings another year, versus
selling them now at a loss. or next year at a bigger loss.

This is a good year for trades for sure... I'm looking for a Meadowbrook
cart... Anyone want a few yearlings in trade LOL Heck take them ALL!

I don't even want to spend much on advertising at this point!

Our hay prices, although low compared to everyone else, still doubled last
year. That's hard to swallow when you are buying 30 tons of hay. We also had
over 3000 in vet bills last year with the loss of our stallion Soren.
Considering we do all our own worming and vaccinations I rarely have to pay
the vet more than $500 for Show Exams (Coggins and Health)

Overall a tough year here in Montana.. like everywhere else I am sure.

We all learn from our poor planning.. (The ENTIRE United States I hope)

In the market

This message is from: Lisa Sherrodd [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi All,
You may remember I posted a while ago about a 20 year
old mare I was looking at, well that didn't work out.
I wanted to let the list know that I am in the market
for a Fjord gelding that would be suitable for my 8
year old daughter. Disposition must be impeccable and
the horse must be easy to handle and very calm. My
daughter is a timid rider and prefers to just mosey
along on a horse. If you all wouldn't mind keeping me
in mind if something comes along for purchase I would
appreciate it. I am located in South Dakota.
Thanks,
Lisa

Carole,

Could you please explain the following statement? Why would line breeding
or inbreeding cause these problems anymore than outcross breeding? If the
problem is in a line it is there doesn't matter how you use it.

The worth of a Fjordhorse depends on many many things, the first one being
his LINEAGE. -- If he or she has a screwed up pedigree --- linebred,
inbred for instance --then in my opinion, he has very litle value because
you don't know what lurks in his genes that may cause serious trouble in his
and your future. -- He may look OK, act OK now, but may go blind at ten
years of age -- Or something else equally devestating.

My first message did not go thru, even into the archives. This is a
re-send.

Just to inform everyone that our new colt out of Heijenta and Prydarson is
OFF the market. He is too spectacular. We will keep him as our stud.

Our yearling colt, The Showman will for sale instead. He will be going to
Libby.
Showman has been in training for 4 months and is a perfect gentleman. He
will have a For Sale sign on him at Libby.

Showman's confirmation is perfect, but Zovtra's is ultra perfect.
Expect Zovtra to be standing stud on Pack's Peak when he matures.

From the little bit of horse selling I've done, I've found and local
horseman's opinion, I've found that a lot of people want a broke horse. Why?
I'm not so certain, but I've heard, from somebody who sees more horsepeople
than I do, that there are a lot of riders out there, but few horsemen, who
know how to properly train a baby. IF this is the case, I'll gladly keep my
youngsters and give them a good, healthy start.

Fjord horse market?

2000-06-26 Thread David Stewart, Registrar
This message is from: David Stewart, Registrar [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Having spoken with a fellow breeder earlier today about keeping
youngsters until they are broken to ride, I now write to the list in the
hope that you can tell me at what age you sell your offspring.

Here in the UK, very few people want to buy a weanling, or indeed
anything unbroken. Breeders' keep their young stock until at least
four, but more often than not, until aged five.

Is their a market for young Fjord stock in the USA, Canada and the rest
of Europe?

With good wishes,

David

Hi all,

this morning I went to the market in my village. There is a small
animal-section, with some horses, cows, etc. As it is January the 2nd, there
were only 4 horses, but... one of them was a Fjord! He looked young, I think
18 months or something, a gelding and so sweet! But I didn't dare to make
enquiries, for fear to end up with him, something I really can't afford
right now. It's the first time I saw a Fjord on this market.
So, I'm beginning this millennium in a hard, though responsible way, I dare
say...

best wishes!
