I don't know what to do about the nails, but when my old gelding
startedtriping alot (mostly from his feet sagging from age) our farrier rounded
the front of his feet, and it really helped.

Nancy,
Thanks for your email-so near, yet so far!! Silly isn't it?
Glad your boy/s are riding!! Surprised about the bucking, we haven't had any
do that, although have talked to others that have. My 'trusty' mare-Gretel-
that I loaned to hubby to take on a round-up last fall, bucked with him, but
found out that she needed a chiropractic adjustment! She needs another now,
so have not been using her. Pooh!
Have used easy-boots once-they were extremely hard to get off & on and tore my
hands up!! Have thought about them for Parades, but don't want the hassle (or
expense).
Our Vet lives 1/2 mile away, and I crindge when we have to call him after
hours or on a week-end, as I know the value of family life!! Our kids went to
country school with him, so we've know him for a loong time and sometimes that
helps.
Still waiting for that baby!!

Duane, did you say Solavktig's hooves were all light colored (amber?) His
white dun mom, Stella, has black hooves, but then she also has the black
stripe. Her hooves are very good, Only put shoes on when I ride a lot on
gravel. Anvil's Adel, my all white filly (Stella's grandaughter and
Solvaktig's niece) has striped hooves, but they are very good, well shaped,
and thick horn, very hard. Adel has a few black hairs scattered in mane and
tail tho, Is it possible that the conditions in North Carolina where your
gelding was before have contributed to his hoof condition? Maybe the new
horn will be better.

Welcome, Bernie! I was about to email or call you about the list, but I was
sure you would have found out about it way before me! Are you still having
trouble getting thru to my email address? Inie is back from training and
Brian is riding her once a week in lessons. She's a noodle, and has a
pretty good buck but he's so nondemanding of her that she's just been fine
for him. I still tend to tense up when whe does her antics.

The vet humor hit its mark...more truth than humor. Horse manure smells
fine to me, but hog manure smells up your hair just being in the same barn.
And you've gotta love your husband to see him on your couch with cow manure
on his sleeve from doing rectals. I've given up! Duane and I understand
our crazy life, its our boys that get disappointed when plans go awry.

My luck with easyboots has not been very successful. Most trail rides end
up with having to go back and find one. If they fit tight enough to stay
put, I've had to use a screwdriver to pop them off. They did work fairly
well to protect after a foot abscess as the sole was growing out.

Any suggestions on trimming/shoeing my white dun that has soft hooves that
tend to crack and not hold nails well. He also trips alot, tho is getting
better on that with lessons intended to lighten his front end carraige. We
have been putting sideclips on his shoes.
