Thanks for the reply, I agree, my horses like to chew on each other's
necks and if I leave halters on
they get all chewed up by the other horses and of course, they use the
halter as a tug rope. I find halters
laying around in the mud or being tossed around by the horses if I leave
them on. A fly mask wouldn't last
very long with the geldings. Just like little puppies and shoe laces.

I use "Skin so soft" bath oil from Avon for those flys . I use it in
our
dogs ears and also the horses. It works great. The little boogers just
drown
in it if they come near the ears at all. I have never had an animals
ears
get infected yet from these flys. Hope this helps.

We use garlic powder x2 a day in their meager grain portion Within days
of starting garlic, no more gross, bloody, crusty ears. Plus the barn
smells nice!

We use garlic powder x2 a day in their meager grain portion once the little
ear flys start. My older paint mare has very, very sensitive skin - and has
reactions to everything but the garlic. I will also use fly masks.

The Skin so Soft contains citronella. You can buy it across the counter at
any pharmacy.
We used the Spot On the last two years with excellent success. No problem
with the horse's ears (flies) without doing anything else but the Spot On.

BTW, Skin so Soft is said to be an excellent mosquito repellant. I can't
use it. It makes me itch so bad I want to tear my skin off. I am allergic
to nothing else...
