Thanks, Matt. I suspected that Flash would always want to be in the
front. Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated.

  Hi Stuart,

  I you're using a URLRequest directly to upload your file, then you can
  retrieve it directly if your PHP file echo the file contents :) If you're
  using the FileReference API, once the upload is finisthed, you'll need to
  reload your picture file within a Loader or a URLLoader !

[Flashcoders] haXe Physics Engine

2008-04-06 Thread Nicolas Cannasse

Hi list,

I'm please to announce the 1.0 release of Physaxe, the haXe Physics
Engine. You can watch the demo on http://blog.haxe.org

Physaxe uses many of the recent haXe optimizations for Flash9, such as
inlining and generated generics. It should then be one of most fast
physics engine around.

Full sourcecode is available on Google project page on
http://code.google.com/p/physaxe

Enjoy !

Hi Cedric

Its currently an XML value with the file name i.e. MYIMAGE01

then in flash the path is hard coded i.e. "uploadedimage/" +
xmlClass.xmlData.ImageURL + ".jpg"

So i presume i would need to reload the XML file?

[Flashcoders] Uploading Image & Displaying in Flash [AS3]

2008-04-06 Thread Stuart Moir [FunkDaWeb]
Hi can you point me to any examples/tutorials for the following problem...

I want to upload an image through a flash app via ASP (the asp part is not a
problem) and then have it displayed in the flash application.

I know how to send the image to ASP but don't know how to wait for it to be
uploaded then display it in flash. This might be really simple but I just can
not figure it out in my head!

mm, well guys, when it comes to a long function that handles an event, It
wouldn't be convenient to REWRITE it another time to be used manually.
Anyways, I'll give a try on that, and feedback.

Cheers and thanks for the help.

True. But then again, if at the start you already find yourself
needing to call a function outside of the context of a mouse event,
doesnt that indicate that locking it in as such, and then finding
workarounds, might be more trouble than its worth?

Re: [Flashcoders] Calling Listener Functions

2008-04-06 Thread Muzak

Downside of not going through event dispatching is that the argument
(e:MouseEvent) will not always be there.
So in your function you'll have to take that into consideration if you're
relying on it:

private function myClickHandler(e:MouseEvent):void {
e.currentTarget // etc..
}

Will throw an error if the argument is null.

Passing a "dummy" mouse event will have the event point to the "wrong"
currentTarget.
And so on..

Easiest way is to just dispatch the event on the button as I previously posted
(version 1).

I disagree with this approach. It's unnecessary and makes code less
manageable. It's cleaner to set the argument as optional (event = null)
than write another subroutine.

Matt S. wrote:

You might want to separate the functions, so you would have
myFunction(), which you could call from anywhere, and myClickHandler,
which would handle the mouse event specifically. So:

fancyButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myClickHandler);

private function myClickHandler(e:MouseEvent):void {
myFunction();
}

private function myFunction():void{
  //blah blah...
}
