Re: [Flashcoders] Java servlets and receiving XML fr om Flash’s xml.sendAndLoad() function

2009-12-17 Thread matt stuehler
Dave,

I've posted this all on a variety of forums, including
StackOverflow.com, and I haven't really gotten much of an explanation.

Here's a link to the technote I was referring to:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/159/tn_15908.html

The strange thing is that, according to the Actionscript
documentation, xml.sendAndLoad unambiguously uses POST.

However, according to the Java Servlet team (who I don't doubt), the
data is sent to them as a GET.

I don't know how to explain this, and since the Java team insists that
the data be sent using POST, I'm stuck.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Matt

Flash is apparently doing something a little unorthodox.

Can you point me to that technote? Because there's simply NO SUCH
THING as a hybrid format. An HTTP request uses one of the standard
HTTP verbs (GET, POST, HEAD, etc). If you want to provide an HTTP
request body, you use HTTP POST. I'm more of a Flex guy, so I don't
really use sendAndLoad, but if I recall correctly you specify whether
it's a GET or a POST as an optional argument if you're using loadVars,
and it's always POST if you use XML.sendAndLoad.

Perhaps their Java app has some sort of HTTP redirect in front of it?
I don't know what happens when you get a redirect in a case like this.
A traffic sniffer like Wireshark is your friend for things like this.

Just a minor correction. It's 44100 samples per second.

Bring out a http debuging proxy (I use MS Fiddler) and see what the
issued request really is.

My hunch is that it is POST, but using the variable encoding usually
attached with GET requests.

Which version of Flash and what publish settings are you using? But in
any case I would not use Flash IDE for generating HTML. Do it manually
using SWFObject (which will be used if you publish from Flash CS5 :)

2009/12/17 Alan Neilsen aneil...@gotafe.vic.edu.au:
 Hi List

I don't recall changing any publish settings for my HTML file, but when I
publish my SWF its HTML file ends up 2,582 KB instead of the expected 10 or
12 KB. When I open the HTML file I find it is the same as earlier back-up
versions that were 10 KB, but for some reason when these later versions get
to, !--text used in the movie-- they now list all the text in the SWF many,
many, many times with lines like:

 p align=leftfont face=Futura LtCn BT size=16 color=#ff
letterSpacing=0.00 kerning=1General data about timber framing
 products to go here./font/p

The HTML code then goes on like that for more than 14,000 lines with, as I
said, many repetitions of all the text used in the SWF.

I have seen this sort of thing before, but have no idea what is causing it.
Can anybody shed light on this for me?

 Alan Neilsen

Re: [Flashcoders] can I get some recommendations for development tools?

2009-12-17 Thread Chris
A lot of people like Flex Builder and Flash Develop. I prefer a
language-agnostic editor than something specific to Flash so I use
jEdit. http://jedit.org

Compiling with the Flex SDK in jEdit on mac is easy with fcshtl:

http://hasseg.org/blog/?p=194
http://ubergeek.tv/article.php?pid=146

Of course it is not as easy to set up as Flash builder but has the
added benefit of working consistently.
