I second Soren...

Good designers and developers must choose what fits best each website, and
that should have been done by a long time, now things are just going to get
more serious. Flash wont die, not in a near future, html5 badly supports
video tag, there are browser compatibility stuff, there are interactive, etc
etc... Flash people and Adobe just need to learn how to argue better, and
this had happen before.

 I think for the type of site where html/css/jquery is enough to
 implement it Flash is indeed a bad choice. What should be it's value
 proposition in those cases? At best it won't get into the way. At worst
 it'll increase load times, worsen SEO, break browser navigation, won't
 allow proper page links, won't honour browser color settings, won't
 degrade well, won't allow my adblockers etc... In my personal experience
 I have seen far more bad flash sites than usable ones. Granted, we are
 finally past the skip intro infant stage, but there is still a lot of
 garbage out there.

 Now don't get me wrong, I think flash fills a very important niche for
 developing highly interactive, dynamic and media rich browser
 applications. No other tool even comes close in the domains flash really
 shines - but please don't think it's the right platform for every website.

 best regards,

Sören

 Many people will bemoan the lack of Flash in the iPad. It wasn't mentioned,
 but eagle-eyed viewers would have seen the missing plugin icon on the New
 York Times site during yesterday's demo, and given that Apple clearly hates
 Flash as both a non-open web standard and as a buggy, CPU-hungry piece of
 code, it's unlikely it will ever be added, unless Apple decides it wants to
 cut the battery life down to two hours.

 Who needs Flash, anyway? YouTube and Vimeo have both switched to H.264 for
 video streaming (in Chrome and Safari, at least -- Firefox doesn't support
 it), and the rest of the world of Flash is painful to use.

 In fact, we think the lack of Flash in the iPad will be the thing that
 finally kills Flash itself. If the iPad is as popular as the iPhone and iPod
 Touch, Flash-capable browsers will eventually be in the minority.

I think the real fact is money.
If apple allows flash on iPad/iPhone, can you imagine how many AppStore
games/apps would be unnecessary because you'd have it online in flash.

[Flashcoders] NetStream.publish record settings

2007-08-13 Thread Christian Pugliese

Hi,

I'm publishing and recording a stream for late playback, thru NetStream
encoding:

var userCam:Camera = Camera.get();
userCam.setMode(320, 240, 15);
userCam.setKeyFrameInterval(60);
userCam.setQuality(144000, 85);

ns.attachVideo(userCam);
ns.publish(camName, record);

Then, why the saved .flv file has a lower (poor) quality compared to the
one being live streamed?

Shouldn't this be recorded with the same quality it has been published?

This doesn't happen if I encode the live feed thru FlixOn2 or Flash
Media Encoder, both them saves the flv with the same streamed quality.
