If you're doing this over a network, this is related to discrepancies

What is _style? You should be using textStyle. The docs have a working

It might be a lot simpler to just do something like:

// Untested.
// Assuming clips are given depths based on ID
var highest_depth:Number = clips_array.length;

// click handler
function click_handler(e:Object):Void {
  if (e.target.getDepth() != (highest_depth)) {
e.target.swapDepths(++highest_depth);
  }
}

This should be fine for IIRC 2 billion+ clicks, with some caveats for
depths greater than 1M..

How exactly? An example would be good.

I find Number a lot more suitable and correct i.e. the aim is to
_convert_/_cast_ a string into a number. I don't want to _parse_ the
number out of a string.
e.g.
Number("1a") will return NaN.
parseInt("1a") will return 1.
Number("1 ") will return NaN.
parseInt("1 ") will return 1.

So.. Number():
a) doesn't mangle the data
b) depends on valid input - no whitespace etc.
c) is faster

Re: [Flashcoders] button action script

2005-12-14 Thread Karthik
I'm not sure as I don't see any text on the buttons. But just a few
rules of thumb (or would that be rule of thumbs? :S) that I follow:

-don't put AS *on* objects. Always use them in frames. For e.g. in the
frame where the button is instantiated:
test_btn.onRelease = function()
{
  //your code
}
This will make things easier to find, debug etc. etc.

-Try to avoid using _root as you will eventually run into problems the
more complex your app gets. This isn't as much a problem now as it was
pre-F7 but nevertheless, a good practice to have..
-Use the debugger to check the status of your buttons etc.

[Flashcoders] JSFL textfield recognition issue

2005-12-13 Thread Karthik
Hi,

   I just ran into an issue with a JSFL script where static/dynamic
textfields that are used in motions tweens on the stage aren't
recognised correctly. I've uploaded a test fla and test JSFL script
here:

http://rapidshare.de/files/909/test.rar.html

Essentially, the script acknowledges that a textfield is on the stage,
but doesn't recognise its attributes. The textfield can't be modified
in this situation.

It is probably understandable if this happens in the non-keyframes of
the tween. But it appears to happen to the keyframes themselves.
Moreover, this seems to affect textfields in non-tweened key frames
that follow in the same layer.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Karthik.

The attibutes property is actually an Object containing all the

Thanks. I was actually having trouble getting *anything* read by JAWS

only way I've been able to get this working now is by setting things

Hi,

   I'm trying to test the accessibility of my SWF, but for the life of
me, I can't get Jaws [1] to read anything in *any* SWF - be it mine or
any of the accessibility example SWFs on MM and elsewhere. I've tested
the app on XP + IE6 and XP + FF 1.5 on two different boxes. I've also
tried testing this on F7 and F8, and also compiling for 6, 7 and 8
with no luck. The SWF are completely skipped everytime. This is Jaws
7.00.135U.

  I'm sure I'm probably doing something silly. The question is ..
what? Configuration settings in JAWS?

Any ideas?

No. The list will very likely no allow attachments, nor will it very
likely allow a 100 pages of code.. Either put up your attachment(s) on
a server somewhere, or with rapidshare/similar stuff, or find an AS
friendly pastebin to paste your code..

And yes, David Peek stole your thread, and is not being flamed for
it.. which is very surprising :P

Take care,

I'm just typing this off the cuff:

//if you have a multiline textfield named test_txt on the stage
//and want to align it vertically to the center of the stage
test_txt.autoSize = true;
//Always set the text via AS rather than use the variable field
test_txt.text = "abcd \n efgh \n ijkl";
test_txt._y = (Stage.height - test_txt._height)/2;
test_txt._x = (Stage.width  - test_txt._width)/2;

//Stage is a built in class..

Hope that helps :)
