to make an opinion about the possibilities or difficulties?

thanks

Re: [Flashcoders] peer 2 peer

2006-06-23 Thread Thomas Marbois

ah

yea...

but IF the server is JUST a meeting spot -- could Flash clients
actually host data? As long as the server is just doing the mapping
of other clients its okbut what I was thinking about was having
them all hold data somehow. Like - what is the internal limit for
Flash plug in - receiving data? Is it browser limit? etc...

Thanks

Tj

It's impossible to do a Flash Player to a remote Flash Player directly
because you need some external common meeting place (like a server)
to tell
you that somebody is waiting to connect. Also there is nothing in
Flash
Player 8 or less that would let you host incomming connections as
all it can

do is pull stuff into the player via LoadVars or XML or XMLSocket.

So I think the minute you introduce a server that acts as a
directory or
lobby for Flash Players to connect, your back to the old Client-
Server model

which is not really P2P.

[Flashcoders] Flash to Sql interface developer needed!

2006-06-05 Thread Thomas Marbois

Hi

Im looking for someone to wire up an existing SQL database structure
-- into a similarly operating interface like this one:

http://www.friendsofed.com/download.html?isbn=1590591585

(see - Making XML work for your interface)

I have modified this project slightly to show the possible way to
visualize the DB in question. Its a database of SurfBoard Shapers -
and their boards made -as well as the surfers who ride them. First I
need a basic prototype done that actually connects to the MySql
tables -- this example project connects to an XML file. Right now -
I am not concerned about how it connects - as long as the database
can be updated and the flash interface can show the changes in a
simple number of steps. So XML or not -- if you have a decent way of
getting back and forth on the sql to flash - thats fine.

Are there any good flash people available to do this job? Please
send your examples and your rates!

best regards,

TJ Marbois

Re: [Flashcoders] mobile?

2006-06-03 Thread Thomas Marbois

Ah...

thanks.

But the Nokia phones are coming with Flashlite installed already right?

I think this market is getting ready to take off for mobile flash
stuff...and Im keeping my projects in the frame of mind that I can
port things over - or make lite-extensions to my flash web-apps.

Re: [Flashcoders] self published.

2006-06-01 Thread Thomas Marbois

This red5 looks promising.

The architecture using java on the backend is fine - in fact Id like
it to be scaleable. My only concern is the legality of reverse
engineering they have done - and what Macromedia might do or not.

Are there some experienced red5 developers here?

Maybe if you have engough clients you could use a dedicated server

You can do something like this with php-sockets but then the hoster
will
have to set safemode off (because of the runtime limit) and you
will have a
permanent running script. I don't think the hoster will like to
have that ;)

Red5 requires a jvm (or jre) on the server, if I read correctly.
I've been
trying to get my host to install one for shared hosting accounts,
and would
use this red5 over localconnection if I were lucky enough to have
java.

I might stand alone on this but these questions popped into my mind
before I got to the second paragraph of your post: Why would I want
an open channel of communication between my applications (swf's) and
you? Why must your utility communicate with your servers? Why would
you not create your utility and make it available via the exchange as
a component instead?

--

- its a game or utility that allows real-time interaction with others.
- my server PUSHES data to your screen.
- its not designed for Flash developers to add into the site - its
designed for anyone with a moderate level of html skills to self
publish into a site.

- I may instead GIVE a URL link for them to embed or copy into their
site - but I want to know the benefits or cons for either method.

method a = embed a SWF in someones own domain and communicate with it
-- push data to it -- via XML socket?
method b = GIVE someone a referenced URL link that they embed into
their own site.

Does that make sense?

Tj

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it would be possible to
make a
connection between servers using LocalConnection. You'd have to
ensure your
client swf was assigned an id to authenticate their application to
access

the data. There would have to be a security model, in other words.

Once again I've never done this so take my advice with a grain of
salt, but
I'm sure interesting things are possible if they are sophisticated
enough to
drop a crossdomain.xml to give you the ability to distribute
components that

interact with your data.

In this case I have to say Flash would make a compelling choice for your
idea.

Mike

-

thanks mikeIm still digging into finding out if it can do what i
want. I think it can - but I just dont know the implementation
details or the subtle security issues that cause communication to
flash to be difficult.

Basically if I can push some data thru to the client using either XML
or another method - and recieve data back to my servers - then Im set.

The only other issues i have to research are security of data - and
security of swf files for decompile -- which I saw was possibly with
an encryption software.

Cheers,

Tj

[Flashcoders] self published.

2006-05-30 Thread Thomas Marbois

Hi

I have an idea for a self placed utility using Flash. Meaning I
allow users to place this utility in their own domains - and I dont
know where those domains are -- and my utility allows me real-time
communications between their published file - and my servers.

What kind of Flash security issues will i have to work around to get
this to work on most or all domains? Is this possible? How?

Best regards,
