Its a known issue, which is fixed in the CVS build.

unfortunately if you point the current version at an existing directory 
for a new project, it decides to forcibly delete the contents.


sounds like you discovered that bug.

the fix has been in cvs for a while now, so its probably time we got a 
new release out before more situations like this happen.

i had it clear my entire desktop. I didn't have it all in SVN at the
time. Pretty freaking scary when it happens.

I've had Eclipse 3.1 delete an entire project directory when I removed a 
project, and said "No, please don't delete the project."

It crashed, deleted everything.  I told it to f'off because I had just 
checked everything in via SVN, but close call.
