However, WEB-INF isn't part of the package structure as the package declaration always starts from com.proj... for all the current classes. This was originally a flex 2 project using Flex 2 Builder without any problems. Is this a known problem with Flex 3 Builder? [flexcoders] Why the weird semantics for some of the higher-order functions?
I very much appreciate having functions as first-class values. However, I'm finding it increasingly annoying that Array.map and .filter don't follow the normal definitions. I keep writing a.map( function(l){return ...} ); only to get run-time errors because map requires a function with three (!) arguments. So I have to change it to: a.map( function(l,i:int,a:Array){return ...} ); Why do map/filter and some of the other higher-order functions have such an unconventional semantics? As well as being annoying, passing the index and complete array also seems to me to violate the normal encapsulation rules that you'd expect of map. Is there a 'normal' version of map somewhere that I'm missing? Thanks, Ed

How can I make actionScript use this value dynamically, so that instead of coding a switch with 50 cases for each property like so: switch(myComboBox.selectedItem.data){ case PRODUCT: return item.PRODUCT; break; case FIELD2: return item.FIELD2; break; case FIELD3: return item.FIELD3; break; ... } ? Can I can instead do something like item.[myComboBox.selectedItem.data]? Do you know what I mean? Something like item.getValueofNamedProperty(myComboBox.selectedItem.data);. [Without complicating the question, I ask because this would greatly simplify a complex charting component I'm developing, where the user should be able to summarize the underlying data based on any of the fields; so I need to know the selected property for the filter function, the toolTip, the sort function, etc. Right now I'm only supporting 3 properties, since I'm relying on nested switch statements like the one above]. I find runtime MXML something that would be invaluable. I'm not too sure about this. Wouldn't every swf have to link to every mx library (just in case it's used)? [flexcoders] SharedObject.getLocal() throws RangeError
I have two Flex Applications: one is a Flex 1.5 App, the other a Flex 2 App. Both want to access the same local SharedObject (lso). If I then load the Flex 2 App, I get an error every time I try to access the lso. Error.toString(): (RangeError) message: Error #2006: The supplied index is out of bounds. As long as the Flex 1.5 App accesses it first, the Flex 2 app can't. The same error doesn't happen between 2 Flex 1.5 Apps or 2 Flex 2.0 Apps.
[flexcoders] Re: SharedObject.getLocal() throws RangeError
Flex 2 serializes lso's as AMF3. Flex 1.5 as AMF0. SharedObject.defaultObjectEncoding = ObjectEncoding.AMF0; var cookie:Object = SharedObject.getLocal(foo, /).data; You have to know the encoding before you try to access the lso. Get it wrong and the lso is deleted. Kinda harsh. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Ed [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have two Flex Applications: one is a Flex 1.5 App, the other a Flex 2 App. Both want to access the same local SharedObject (lso). [flexcoders] Re: Web Service Error Handling Problem
Follow-up: Support for this is a little better documented in Flex 2, but still feels like a hack. If you inspect your RemoteObject and manage to find a reference to the underlying NetConnection object, you can add a listener for the NetStatusEvent to detect non-200 http status code responses or dead connections. For example, if you're using Renaun's RemoteObjectAMF0 (http://renaun.com/blog/flex-components/remoteobjectamf0/): remoteObj.gateway_conn.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onConnectionFault); Where onConnectionFault is some function to handle connection-level failures. I haven't tried this with the built-in FDS RemoteObject yet, but it would be nice if both the built-in and Renaun implementations just called the fault handler on connection failures. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Ed [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is killing me as well. When my server returns anything other than HTTP status 200, like a 404 or 503, even if that's an appropriate response, neither the success nor fault handlers are executed. As far as Flash/Flex is concerned, it will continue waiting as if a response is forthcoming. I have a Flex 1.5 fix, but I don't think it works very well. Say you have a RemoteObject: mx:RemoteObject id=services source=com.company.Facade fault=handleFault(event); result=handleResult(event);/ Somewhere you make a call to the facade. services.doSomething(); Say the request is really long running. Using Apache/Tomcat, the server may decide to timeout with a 503 (Service Unavailable), which is an entirely appropriate and expected response. The 503 response will arrive at my Flex app and be completely ignored. If I've defined a busy cursor for this request. mx:method name=doSomething showBusyCursor=true / Then busy cursor will never go away and the Flex App will just spin. To fix this, I created a initialize event handler in the class that contains my RemoteObject. private function doInitialize(pEvent:Object):Void { pEvent.target.services.__conn.onStatus = onConnectionFailure; } private function onConnectionFailure(pEvent:Object):Void { // 1. do something to indicate a connection failure // 2. remove the busy cursor } This takes advantage of a connection level fault handler which documented at http://livedocs.adobe.com/fms/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Partsfile=0742.html If you just want *something* in your code to execute on request failures, this will do it for you. But there's a big problem with this fix. Not only will you respond to 404s, 503s, and whatever else, but you'll also respond to generic connection failures, like pulling your network cable out. At first, that sounds like a bonus. But in practice, connections come and go all the time. Sometimes the server will just time you out for inactivity. Sometimes you'll lose your connection for a few seconds in the middle of a request. Those are false positives. You should be able to solve that problem by checking the argument passed to Connection.onStatus. While that is documented, in my case (Flex 1.5), this argument is always undefined. So when a fault is detected, you have no way of figuring out whether or not it's legit. To top it all off, more often than not my entire App becomes unresponsive after connection failures. You have to hit refresh. It's disappointing to see that this isn't fixed in Flex 2 yet: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/html/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Book_Partsfile=dataservices_099_03.html I suspect this isn't an Adobe problem, but a browser problem, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, even though the cure is probably worse than the disease, this is something you can try out as well. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Chua Chee Seng quai83@ wrote: Hi all, I am building a data adapter using web service. João, Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried both port 80 and port 8500 with FB2 running on the same box as CF7 and a separate box. The really weird thing is that I can access via RDS from CF Report Builder, but not from FB2b3. -Ed From: "João Fernandes" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: RDS problems with beta 3 I had the same issue when using IIS and pointing to port 80. When using de CF instance port number It started to work. João Fernandes Dep. Informática - à rea de Desenvolvimento Cofina media I'm having problems with Flex Builder 2 beta 3 in connecting via RDS to CFMX7. I installed the CF_FBExtensions_B3_0515 on top of FB2b3. In trying to configure RDS to connect to my CF7 server, all I can get is "Unable to contact the RDS server...". I've tried two different CF7 servers and have verified that both CF7 server are accepting RDS connections since I can connect to both using RDS via CF Report Writer. I've tried connecting by host name and IP address. Any suggestions?? Thanks! IMPORTANT NOTICE: This e-mail is meant only for the use of the intended recipient.
