For Java: YES, you *do* need FDS
For ColdFusion: No
For HTTP: No, but there's a proxy in FDS you *could* use
For WebServices:  No, but there's a proxy in FDS you also *could* use

You don't need FDS to use RemoteObject I was having that impression
until I asked. See
