[Flexradio] [Fwd: measure P/S volts AT THE RIG TERMINALS]
Ken, I have not tried it, but I could'nt believe that anyone sells a radio these days in this voltage range that does not accept anything between 12 and 13.8 Volts. The nominal 12 V car battery - the origin of this voltage standard - has these 12 V when used a short time without loading, it has 12.8 V during loading and normal power consumption; 13.8 is the maximum that is likely to appear in a car as long as you have a functional battery. So, 13 V should be perfect. But did you check the voltage with a scope? Maybe it breaks down under peaks of load. 73, Luer, DF5TP -- next part -- An embedded message was scrubbed... Re: [Flexradio] [Fwd: measure P/S volts AT THE RIG TERMINALS]
Clarification is in order. The SDR will work just like other radios with less voltage, i.e. the power output goes down with less voltage. The point Ken was making is that the SDR achieves optimum power output at 13.8 volts. The SDR will handle as wide a voltage variance as any other radio on the market. John P. Re: [Flexradio] Question About Heil GM-5 Microphone
I spoke to a technician at Heil today how indicated that if the diagram on the website is followed, with the shield wired as indicated, the cable should work. I used this diagram on the Heil website to make my cable. http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/bal_unbal.htm - Original Message - From: Allan Cullen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mark Ericksen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 5:25 AM Subject: RE: [Flexradio] Question About Heil GM-5 Microphone Hi Mark, I would also be interested in the answer to your question, I also have a Heil Microphone which shows the same characteristics. Regards Allan GM0FWV Message Received: Feb 26 2007, 03:43 AM From: Mark Ericksen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Cc: Subject: [Flexradio] Question About Heil GM-5 Microphone I just purchased a new Heil GM-5 microphone to use with my SDR-1000. Following the instructions on the Heil website, and using Heil wire, I built a cable that has a XLR 4 connector on the microphone side and a XLR 3 connector on the radio side which includes a Heil 1/4 connector for PTT. I run this cable into a M-Audio Audio Buddy preampflier which in turn feed my Delta-66 card on input 3. It seems to work well as far as I can tell. I do have a question though: using an ohmeter I noticed that Pin 1 in the microphone is internally connected to the microphone body. Pin 1 also connects to one side of the microphone element. I would have thought that the microphone body would have been isolated from the microphone element (less chance of hum and noise). Can anyone explain to me why Heil chose to internally wire the microphone this way? Thanks Mark AD4MA -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
