Over the past year or so, this concept of "database corruption" seems
to crop up occasionally. What's causing the corruption? Is it worth
trying to find the bugs that are causing it, or do we just live with it?

If you're using the parallel cable, be sure nothing is in the printer
queue assigned to the port you are using for the SDR. I used to have
a printer hooked to the same parallel port I now use for the SDR, and
accidentally sent a print job to that old printer that is not in use
now, and it freaked out the SDR.

Clyde,
You can add/modify the groups by just opening the database with access
and editing the GroupList table. Mine has 28 groups now.
The program reads the group titles from this table so anything that you
enter there is shown when you save or recall.

Hi RJ

I have had things like that happen when the data base gets corrupted.
Load in your backup data base. The data base is the file named
PowerSDR.mdb. If you don't have a backup get one from an old folder or
the svn folder or do the setup again. I always keep a file called
PowerSDR_Backup.mdb that I just rename as PowerSDR.mdb when things like
this happen.

Hope this helps,

Re: [Flexradio] Ground Loops and Popping Sounds

2007-03-24 Thread Ken N9VV
Larry, you might want to try Line Isolators. They break any ground
loops and also eliminate any hum. They worked very well for me on
both my TO-LINE-IN and TO-LINE-OUT lines
http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10359

Another thing to try is to purchase one of the inexpensive converter
boards from Tony KB9YIG that eliminates the large breakout box and
converts everything to 1/8" connectors. I believe Tony sells them
for less than $15.

You can purchase 1/8" stereo lines from MPJA for with ferrite chokes
already installed

Just out of curiosity.. is there an off-site mirror of the SVN
server? I know a lot of people have big chunks of the tree on their
local drives, but it might be tricky to reconstruct the original tree
from them. In particular, all the history back to the beginning?

What about things like the forums?

And, if all of these are under the control of a single person, are
there succession plans, so if that person gets hit by a bus, or
trapped in the data center on fire with the server, there isn't a
huge disruption in flexing going forward?

It sounds like a setup/connection/control issue. Are you using the parallel

[Flexradio] Rode NT1A Microphone Worth the Money?

Use the NT1A for recording where it will shine. The SDR needs only a reasonable
mic. SDR's built-in EQ can adjust for most short comings. I use a Proset/C5
with significant EQ adjustments and get rave reports. It's more convenient to
have a dedicated mic for the SDR.

[Flexradio] Leveler and ALC settings Experimenting

2007-03-24 Thread Gerald Capodieci
SVN 1078
  Leveler:
  MaxGain=15, Attack=3, Decay=5000, Hang=5000
  ALC: Attack=10, Decay=5000, Hang=5000
  Front Screen:
  Mic Gain=40, COMP=0, CPDR=2
  EQ: Preamp=+4, Low=+4, Mid=-4, High=+8; Band Pass=100-3200 Hz
Mic is a C5 Heil in the Proset
  Noise Gate= OFF
SVN 1078 was downloaded into an empty folder and the database was built not
imported.
When finished the Memory Frequencies were copied for a previous Database.
While admittedly highly extreme, these settings provide some interesting
transmission characteristics:
  1. They provide maximum voice to room noise ratio. While talking, the room
noise is suppressed by 15 db.
  2. They provide about 2 seconds of suppressed room noise to allow taking a
breath before the Leveler starts to increase the mic gain. Locals report a
natural good audio with no objectionable room noise even though I have the SDR
fan, computer fan and the AL-82 blower all running within 3 feet of the
microphone.
I'm requesting those who wish to experiment to start with these settings, do
a lot more testing and please report back to either me or the reflector. These
controls are promising.

Subject: [Flexradio] QSY via MixW... to 732.344.939?

Hi Flexers,

I'm seeing a strange problem when I QSY my rig from MixW using the
scroll wheel.

Config: MixW to PowerSDR via N8VB's VCOM.

When I use the scroll wheel in MixW (click over the waterfall and turn
the wheel on my mouse), unless I turn the wheel very, very, very slowly
(that is, much slower than one wheel click per second) after just a few
wheel clicks (seven seems to be the magic number), MixW loses its mind
and displays a frequency such as 732.344.939. PowerSDR shows the
correct frequency.

The behavior does not seem to be affected by changing the parallel port
delay (or the serial port baud rate on either side, which should matter
anyhow given that the port is virtual).

The problem seems to be unlikely to be solely a MixW problem, as I can
QSY my TS-2000 this way (via a physical serial connection) as fast as I
can turn the scroll wheel.

Before I proceed to diagnose this further, I wanted to know if any of
the MixW + SDR users out there have seen or solved this problem.

Thanks for any info,

de Peter K1PGV

[Flexradio] 2007/Mar/24 Flex Radio Teamspeak audio

2007-03-24 Thread Mike Naruta
The 2007/March/24 Flex Radio TeamSpeak audio is available at:

Hint: When listening, I use Audacity to increase the tempo
of the recording by 25% or 33%. The effect increases the
rate of speech without increasing the pitch of the speech.
This reduces the time for listening, and seems to increase
my comprehension.

Also, for listeners who have English as a second language,
you can reduce the tempo for easier comprehension.

In Audacity, select the portion of the file, or all of the
file, click on Effect, click on Change Tempo. Then you can
play at the new tempo.

To obtain the FREE, open source Audacity, go to:

Re: [Flexradio] external OCXO, silly question

2007-03-24 Thread Jean-marc BORD
John & Mark,

Thank you very much, I appreciate!.

The OCXO is now wired to the SDR1000 and everything is working fine.

By the way, if you tune your SDR to precisely 50.010, what do you get on
your screen ? (please answer direct please, screen snapshot with &
without SR) ?.

Take care
Jean-marc F1HDI

The 50 ohm termination does two things:

1. It terminates the coax from the oscillator so you reduce ringing and
the possibility of increased jitter that results, and

2. The maximum input voltage that the DDS can accept is fairly low, and
an unloaded clock signal can fairly easily exceed that level. The load
helps ensure the voltage will be under that limit.

[Flexradio] external OCXO, silly question

2007-03-24 Thread Jean-marc BORD
Hi,

Apologize, I do have a rather silly question. I am in the process to
connect an external OCXO to the DDS board and saw that the external XO
connection kit handle a 50ohm resistor to 'load' the input of the DDS
clock.
Is it mandatory ? related to the fact that the DDS clock input Z is >>
50ohm ?.

Best regards
Jean-marc F1HDI
