Try changing the VAC driver to WDM-KS. Make sure that the digi mode
program is not running when you make change.

What are yourFirewire/audio (SR & buffer) and VAC settings in
PowerSDR? I do not think it is a PTT issue but the first part of the

Which firmware do you have loaded to the Radio?
If it is Firmware 2.0.0.0 PowerSDR 1.18.3 WILL NOT WORK with this firmware
version.
You should be using 1.3.0.8 on the Flex-5000 and Flex 1.2.5.6 on the
Flex-3000.

Brett,

If you are in demo mode when PowerSDR starts, then the problem is that
the

radio and the PC are not communicating with each other at the Firewire
level. You have to resolve this first.

So to do this, lets start with a clean slate because it might be
impossible to figure out what is actually causing the problem. Do these
steps and do not take any short cuts.

1.) Turn off the FLEX-5000 and remove the power from it (this results in
a

hardware reset)
2.) Using the Control Panel "Add and Remove Programs" or what ever they
call in in your version of Windows, uninstall the FLEX Firewire driver.
3.) Reboot the PC - do not power up the radio.
4.) install the latest Firewire driver
(http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=292) using the
directions

in the KB to the letter
(http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50137.aspx). Make sure you
reboot when indicated and also make sure the PC is completely up before
powering on the FLEX-x000 to finish the driver installation.
5.) In the referenced article above, do step 14 to validate that the
radio

is communicating with the PC.
6.) If PowerSDR 1.18.3 is installed, un-install it using the Control
Panel

"Add and Remove Programs" applet.
7.) Delete the folder c:\Program Files\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR v1.18.3
to make sure the old database is not retained.
8.) Install a fresh copy of PowerSDR 1.18.3
(http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=294)
9.) After it is installed run the setup wizard and you should see the
wisdom file creation dialog box. After the wisdom file is created, it
should ask you what radio you are using after a few warning popups.
Select the FLEX-5000.
10.) When you start PowerSDR again after the setup wizard is done, you
should see the program creating a EEPROM backup and then it will transfer
EEPROM data into the database. If you do not see this happening or it
takes a long time, then there is something wring with the communication
between the radio and the PC. And we have to figure out what that is
before proceeding.

Do a database reset from the Setup form. If you are not presented to
select

the correct radio when PowerSDR is re-started, then you may have a driver

Which version of PWSDR are you trying to start?

Do you have the correct Driver installed.
While the Driver should work for all versions.
Did you remove it?

The Firmware is version dependent.
Did you remove the Firmware, and if so did you reinstall the correct
Firmware version appropriate to the PWSDR version your trying to start.

Brett,

If you are in demo mode when PowerSDR starts, then the problem is that the
radio and the PC are not communicating with each other at the Firewire
level. You have to resolve this first.

So to do this, lets start with a clean slate because it might be
impossible to figure out what is actually causing the problem. Do these
steps and do not take any short cuts.

1.) Turn off the FLEX-5000 and remove the power from it (this results in a
hardware reset)
2.) Using the Control Panel "Add and Remove Programs" or what ever they
call in in your version of Windows, uninstall the FLEX Firewire driver.

3.) Reboot the PC - do not power up the radio.
4.) install the latest Firewire driver
(http://support.flex-radio.com/Downloads.aspx?id=292) using the directions
in the KB to the letter
(http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50137.aspx). Make sure you
reboot when indicated and also make sure the PC is completely up before
powering on the FLEX-x000 to finish the driver installation.
5.) In the referenced article above, do step 14 to validate that the radio
is communicating with the PC.
6.) If PowerSDR 1.18.3 is installed, un-install it using the Control Panel

2009-10-03 Thread Brett Gazdzinski
Psdr 1.18.3, firmware updated ok, driver version 3.4.2.6300, all the latest
stuff, while I can update the radio firmware, when I open psdr it does not
see the radio...only gives my sound card options, the driver does list the
5000.

Brett
Which version of PWSDR are you trying to start?

Do you have the correct Driver installed.
While the Driver should work for all versions.
Did you remove it?

The Firmware is version dependent.
Did you remove the Firmware, and if so did you reinstall the correct
Firmware version appropriate to the PWSDR version your trying to start.

In an effort to go back to the default config, and also try older
versions of Psdr, I now cant get the radio to work at all.
It does not seem to communicate with the PC and wants to go into demo
mode.

Funny (sort of) when I did not have the radio, demo would not work, now
that I have the radio, demo is all I can now get to work

I have removed everything and reinstalled, but that does not seem to
erase the device driver or something...

When I power on the 5000, I get two beeps like normal, open psdr and it
says it cant communicate with the radio.

I have tried deleting the database files, still no go.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Brett

Good day, Elan;

I share your apprehension in making a Mac work with a Flex-Radio and
PowerSDR. For me, it was a difficult task, simply because I had chosen
the incorrect Firewire device to disable in my XP operating environment.
I had followed a proceedure on the Flex-Radio KB (knowledge base), but
the words in the original proceedure were different (did not match what
was seen in the DEVICE MANAGER) to the point that I wasted a lot of days
and hours, before I accidentally discovered the correct method.

I had since contacted the originator of the Boot Camp install that would
allow PowerSDR and the like to function on a Mac. I had offered the
changes to this otherwise excellent document; -As yet, I do not see any
modification or update, so I will simply copy the text of the
now-modified proceedure below. I do hope that this will be of help to
you. (Using this modified proceedure, I have been successful in
installing the needed drivers and PowerSDR on two iMacs and one MacBook
Pro.)

How to Install PowerSDR 1.x on an Intel Macintosh
System Dependencies
Minimum PowerSDR Version: 1.18.1
Applicable Hardware: Any FLEX-xx00 SDR

Note: It helps to be familiar and comfortable with both the Macintosh
OS-X and Windows XP operating systems.

Recommended Hardware:
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB HD
Recommended Software:
Mac OS X 10.5.5 (Leopard) [install disk 1 or 2]
Boot Camp 2.1 (or latest version)
XP Home with SP2 Installation CD
Service Pack 3 for Windows XP (SP3) - from Windows Update
Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework
Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP 1 Framework
FLEX Firewire device driver 3.4.0.5254 (or greater)
FLEX-n000 SDR firmware update (latest version)
PowerSDR 1.18.1 Installation program
Recommended Documentation:
Boot Camp Installation Guide (
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup.pdf )

Installation Procedure:

Step 1. Go to the Apple web site and download the Boot Camp Installation
Guide.

Step 2. Read the Boot Camp Installation Guide (It is best to PRINT the
manual!)

Step 3. Boot your Intel Mac then start Boot Camp Assistant.

Step 4. Let Boot Camp partition the disk. Boot Camp Assistant will give
you several options for partitioning your disk, including splitting it
half-and-half between Windows and MacOS, making a 32GB Windows
partition, or letting you pick what you need. If you are only going to
use Boot Camp and the
Windows Partition to run PowerSDR and some other ham radio things, e.g.
Ham Radio Deluxe and a digital-mode program like FLdigi or DM780, you
only need a few Gigabytes for your windows partition. I gave my windows
partition 10GB and it was happy. Remember, you may need to leave enough
room for Windows to do an upgrade to SP3 so there needs to be room for
the SP3 installer to do a backup.

Step 5. Let the Boot Camp Assistant start the Windows XP installation
process. NOTE: You must use a WinXP SP2 (service pack 2) install CD.
(You may also use an XP-Service Pack 3 installation disk.)

Step 6. Go through the normal XP installation process.
Select the new partition that was generated by Boot camp.
Allow Windows to a quick format of partition "C: ... [FAT32] ...".
Important: Remember you need to let Windows re-format the new partition
even though Boot Camp formatted the partition as FAT32 when it created it!
This is needed to ensure that Windows XP has a proper boot block in the
partition. If you fail to do this, Windows will not reboot after the
first phase of the Windows installation.

Step 7. Install Windows XP-SP2. (Preferably XP-SP3!) The installation
will restart the computer one time, during the installation process, so
leave the XP installation CD in the Mac.
Once Windows is completely installed and running, EJECT the Windows XP
installation disk, and then insert the "MacOS X Install Disk 1" that
came with your computer, and let it install all the drivers. (In some
cases this will be MacOS X Install Disk-2, not disk-1; If the correct
disk is in place, the Boot Camp drivers will be installed into the
Windows environment; If there are no Boot Camp drivers on the disk, just
eject the disk, and try the other one that came as standard equipment
with your Mac computer.)

Step 8. Download and install all the Apple MacOS X updates. -Do a search
for {download "Windows XP Drivers Update" boot camp} as an example, to
get a download link to get the ne

[Flexradio] Health news regarding John Basilotto, W5GI

2009-10-03 Thread Gerald Youngblood
Dear FlexRadio customers,

Many of you know our friend and colleague, John Basilotto W5GI, who retired
from FlexRadio a couple months ago due to an undiagnosed health problem. On
Thursday, John came by the office to tell us that he has been diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer. He plans to meet with an oncologist soon to see what
treatment options he may have, if any.

John has a great attitude and he plans to stay as active as he can,
including on the air. In fact, he is at the Belton, Texas Hamfest this
morning selling off a lot of his ham gear. John said that he would like to
be able to go to the Dayton Hamvention next year so he can see many of his
friends.

Our prayers are with John and his family as they go through this difficult
time. If you know John and wish to contact him, his email is
j...@flex-radio.com.

Sincerely,
Gerald
