Just got my 5000 and I've been doing a lot of listening. I also enjoy Broadcast
Band DX'ing and I'm noticing that the AM Broadcast band performance is very
poor. Local stations can be heard at many images. Is this status quo, or is
there some mod to improve this? I am not hearing any AM broadcast stations in
the amateur bands (thankfully!)

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

A preselector or low pass filter is needed to eliminate images when used below
1.8 MHz.

[Flexradio] Why do I need VAC on to get audio

2010-04-26 Thread bobt
Hi to the group,

I have just upgraded my hardware and also
changed to windows 7. I'm using 1.3.0.8 3.5.2.8028 and 1.1.18.5 with a
5000A. When I got everything working I had no audio ! after much playing
around ( and trying to load net 3.5 windows 7 doesn't need it) !! and
several re-installs, I find that if I enable VAC, use MME and connect to
Microsoft sound mapper inputs and outputs and use High Definition Audio
device I get sound! but the audio slider on the at the top left on the Flex
screen doesn't work and neither do the outputs on the mixer control panel
and if I uncheck the VAC box the sound goes. But the audio sliders at the
bottom of the flex screen do work. Please does anyone know either what I did
or didn't do or what I should do to fix it ?

Re: [Flexradio] laptop firewire card

2010-04-26 Thread Neal Campbell
Dan,

You might check what your power scheme is. Go to the Control panel and
select Power Options (duh). Select High Performance and click on the
hyperlink that says Change Plan Settings. When the next screen comes up,
click on Change advanced power settings.
This will give you a whole cornucopia of things to fiddle with. The main
ones you want to change are:
Hard Disk->Turn off hard disk after: For battery, I have mine set at 20
minutes and for Plugged in Never (its the number below 1)
USB settings-> USB selective suspend setting: On battery: disabled Plugged
in: Disabled
PCI Express->Link State Power Management: On battery: Off Plugged in: Off
Processor power management->Minimum processor state: On battery: 5% Plugged
in: 100%
Processor power management->System cooling policy: Ob battery: passive
Plugged in: passive

It almost sounds like you have speedstep or something kicking in and
disrupting the program. These should get those out of the way if its power
related.

Otherwise, go to www.blackviper.com if you haven't already and turn off the
"stuff" you don't need!

[Flexradio] Flex 5K - WSJT 7 - VAC 4.10 Errors

2010-04-26 Thread tbald53892

Recently I got the 5K working with WSJT 7, VAC 4.10 and was able to copy the
recent 432 MHz EME transmissions from KP4AO. Even though it all seems to work
I'm getting consistent audio stream cable (both cable 1 and cable 2) overflows
(and underflows) as reported by the VAC control panel. I've tried playing with
just about every combination of sample rates, buffer sizes, etc but nothing
seems to make a difference in the over/underflow errors. No other applications
are running and I'm using the SVN 3643 PSDR build.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Use version v4.09. Nothing I have found makes a difference in those buffer
over/under flow errors.

Re: [Flexradio] Why do I need VAC on to get audio

2010-04-26 Thread Dudley Hurry

Bob,

When you select the VAC button without the VAC application installed,
you are rerouting the line audio through to the Sound mapper as shown in
the VAC window.. The normal RX audio is provide out of the PWR-SPKR
jack out the rear of the radio, which is where a set of powered
speakers or amplified speakers of some sort are connected. This port
is controlled by the AF gain control..

Hope this helps.

2010-04-26 Thread Dudley Hurry

Dan,

If you have the ThinkVantage Power manager running, make sure to set it
to Timers off or Max Power also .
My T60 sets at < 100 normally on the DPCs..Make sure you have the
latest BIAS from Lenovo. Disable the Wireless and Bluetooth in Device
Manager.

Right now I would say TI. Lucent(Agere) and possibly Via are the ones to go
for. Stay away from JMicron like the plague and I hear NEC doesn't work
well.
