Re: [Flexradio] Still Frustrated
Rick, I sometimes feel old and frustrated myself, but not about my Flex radios! I have a Flex-5000 and a Flex-3000 that I use primarily on CW and PSK31. I use DM780 for PSK31, and even though I have installed HRD, I do not have the need to run it (or Mini-Deluxe which I have not tried) to run DM780 successfully. My T/R switching speed is pretty good on the digital modes with DM780. There are some issues with the latest public beta of PowerSDR (2.0.8) on CW and I have found that if I downgrade to 2.0.6, CW works fairly well. I am hoping that the next general beta release to the public will have addressed these CW problems. I have received excellent reports on PSK with IMD levels of around -30 dB. The transmitted waveform looks very clean down to at least -100 db from the peak. You could also revert to version 1.18.6 which works fine on CW and PSK31 as I recall. If you would like to talk through my setup over the phone, I would be glad to work with you on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Please contact me directly if you wish to set something up. I love the new Flex 5000A receiver but am having very little luck with digital modes and CW. It's been recommended that I not use HRD but switch to mini-deluxe which I did. DM780 receives fine but won't activate PTT. Then I tried Fldigi and found that it had a very limited number of com port choices which don't match my options. PWRSDR is set to com 9 here and I do not have PTT enabled. Should I? If so which com port should it be set to? I've had quite a time getting this set up for digital modes and CW, which still isn't working well. I have to say that I've never had so little on air time with a new radio. I seem to be spending all my available time trying to figure out how things work. Sorry to complain but I find it frustrating. Is there some tutorial somewhere that provides an easy way to set the radio up for each mode - proper levels, recommended digi mode software etc? Maybe there is and I just haven't had time to find it. Re: [Flexradio] Still Frustrated
Thanks to all who responded with life lines. I got back to it this morning. Checked all settings in PWRSDR setup and went back and setup mini-Deluxe, DM780 and Logbook. All working nowgo figure? I do have one further question. In PSK31 xmit mode I seem to be getting a little burp about every 4 seconds. That's the best way I can describe it. Any thoughts. I'm using PWRSDR 2.0.13 at the moment. Re: [Flexradio] Still Frustrated
Are you using the demo version of VAC? If so the burp is the embedded voice (QRM) that cripples the VAC demo version of the software. This goes away when you install the purchased version of VAC -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Richard Lawn Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2010 9:55 AM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Still Frustrated Thanks to all who responded with life lines. [Flexradio] VFO Knob
I have owned my 5000A for a month now and don't enjoy using the mouse to tune the VFO. I owned a Ten-Tec Pegasus for a few years and enjoyed using their Tuning Pod that has a great feeling VFO knob and a programmable key pad. I am presently using a Kensington Orbit Trackball that has a free spinning scrolling wheel around the track ball, but would like to try one of the VFO knobs like the Griffin PowerMate or ShuttlePRO, and would like to hear comments on your experience with there devices. Please note, I am not looking for comments on why you like using the mouse... thanks. Re: [Flexradio] VFO Knob
I don't know the vfos mentioned but that is the one thing that stops my contest group embracing the Flex. They like playing with their knobs (all puns aside). So yes if there were ever to be add-on VFOs I would be interested. It also doesn't have acceleration. You can have mine. I use the ShuttlePRO for the first time in the Flex booth at Pacificon. I liked it immediately. The center knob turns like a standard tuning knob and is great for making small adjustments in freq. The ring around the center tuning knob provides QSY with acceleration, i.e. the farther you turn it, the faster you QSY. I am thinking of getting one. -- Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN/J79BPL 3191 Western Dr. Cameron Park, CA 95682 br...@lloyd.com +1.767.617.1365 (Dominica) +1.931.492.6776 (USA) (+1.931.4.WB6RQN) ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] VFO Knob
I bought the Shuttlepro - don't like it (I now like the Logitech mouse with free wheeling wheel). The shuttlepro knob is not freewheeling - doesn't feel like a real knob. I suspect the Griffin knob would be better. [Flexradio] [Flex Radio] VFO Knob
Joe I use the Griffin First the knob is not free spinning. Second the driver for the Griffin is not locked to PowerSDR. That means that you have to switch to the PowerSDR screen so that it is the active screen to use the knob. Normally I use my mouse to QSY quickly and use the Griffin to fine tune. If you use DDUtil and look at the RCP tab you will see that K6TD K6TU have a tuning knob in the works but nothing commercial yet.
