I have been doing much better since applying the Bootcamp Update for Early
2011 MacBookPro.
Communication has been solid since. Also set the Performance to High.
Still have DLP peaks every
16 seconds at ~1000, with an ambient running around 75 to 150 most of the
time.
I have been shaving devices and services pretty hard to try to kill the
periodic peaks. No luck so far.
As it comes together, I'll start to build up the rest of the environment as
time permits.
Listening tests so far have been Really First Rate.
Thanks

2011-06-24 Thread W1AEX - Rob

Richard,

Thank you for your tireless efforts to keep the FlexWiki up and running.
I was watching the flood of attacking IP addresses from around the
planet (Germany, Romania, Italy, leased VPN circuits and other
persistent attackers) and could see you reversing the damage each time.
As far as I can see it all looks intact at this time. I restored my
stuff, along with Dan's and Tim's contributions, so you'll see my login
present several times as well. Given the open nature of the Wiki format,
I'm not sure what the long term solution for this will be, but thanks
for your repair work!

2011-06-24 Thread K0DAN
Yes indeed, thanks for all the efforts to keep the Wiki reliable! (And Rob,
thanks for finding/restoring the archives...you saved me a lot of typing and
reinventing the wheel!)

Some months back, when I entered my comments on the audio article, I was
required to log in (and be verified?) before I could make changes. Assuming
that security step was actually working, it appears it was somehow
circumvented by our unwelcome visitor.

You'd think there'd be better hacking targets than trashing the FlexWiki?

Anyway, thanks to all, and it looks like the Wiki is pretty much back to
normal.

Well, I am fighting a losing battle. My page monitor is catching the mods and
reverting them, but there are more and more bots

An admin needs to revert the security changes.

It was fun while it lasted - but I have a bathroom to remodel!

Who knows. Graffiti is popular on walls as well, something I can't
understand either. OTOH I do know that open systems are often used by
hackers as drop-boxes for software and other things. And sometimes it is
just kiddies playing for the fun of it.

The pages contain links, the links get indexed by search engines as they are
being put on an already indexed siteit's the
technique these so called SEO's use to get site promoted. Pity it does not
work as well as it used to back when Google was an
infant.but it costs them nothing to utilize infected machines with IRC
controlled bots to do this. They take $2000 of a naïve
company and then set there bots off. Money in the back for using somebody
else's computer to do the work.

There are blacklist files that get updated daily, but it is a battle you will
lose unless you take all the steps to secure your site
and keep those blacklists up to date.

[Flexradio] Minimum Output of Flex-5000?

2011-06-24 Thread Jeff Singer
Has anyone accurately measured the minimum output power of a Flex-5000?

Using my ancient Autek WM-1 swr/power meter I see a bit under one watt with
the Flex drive slider set to 1 (it goes to no output when set to 0). The
Flex's own meter shows one watt. That's on 40-meter CW into a 1.0:1 SWR. But
I question how accurate either power reading is at such extreme low power.

Thinking of using the Flex in some QRPp contests.

[Flexradio] Not full output on Flex 3000

2011-06-24 Thread Kent Hufford
In CW mode that I checked on 40m and 20m I get about 75 watts out max, with
drive set to 100 and swr

around 1.05. This is with the powersdr 2.1.2 rc3 swr tx meter and also on a
wavenode wn-2.

On SSB with the drive at 100 and driving to 0dB I get about 89 watts on 40
and about 75 on 20m.

I used to get near 100 watts when the drive was at 100.

Just reinstalled 2.1.2 rc3 with my new flexcontrol... but I don't think that
had anything to do with it.

Did I miss something?

thanks,

Kent

Re: [Flexradio] Looks like someone really messed up the Flexwiki

2011-06-24 Thread Richard Clafton
Probably so….

One of the machines doing the attacking is a traffic monitoring host in CA. On
a Verizon connection.

Its running a webserver, and a quick port scan shows me the machine is indeed
vulnerable.

This is that machine…

Anyway, this is now getting way off topic for Flex, so I will go back to what
the wife wants me to do…

I think that a mandatory upgrade of the wiki software probably overwrote the
config file and allowed everyone in for alteration. As
soon as I return from the beach I will look and do whats necessary to get it
working!

There are blacklist files that get updated daily, but it is a battle you will
lose unless you take all the steps to secure your site
and keep those blacklists up to date.

What is the motive for having bots deface the Wiki?

It is better than DPCLAT

I see you have managed to re-apply the lockdown to the Wiki.

Unfortunately I seem to have been banned in the process.

Re: [Flexradio] Not full output on Flex 3000

2011-06-24 Thread W1AEX - Rob

Hi Kent,

I ran into this on 20 meters and 30 meters with my Flex 5K. It turned
out to be

an awkward impedance bump, caused by a homebrew RF pickup I was using for my
scope, that was in the path between my Flex and the 50 ohm load. I found
that if
I used a short length of RG-213 directly into my 50 ohm dummy load the
Flex made
100 watts on every band. You might try a direct connection just to
eliminate any

hardware external to your Flex 3K that might be causing the issue.

If you still see less than expected output on 40 and 20 meters, I'd
suggest that
you reset the database in whatever version you are using, and then run a
quick
check of power supply current draw at maximum output for each band from
160-6
meters. While running directly into your dummy load, record the current
you are
drawing on each band at maximum output. At 100 watts output it should be
around
20 amps, plus or minus a little, assuming your power supply is
delivering 13.8
volts to the Flex. If 40 meters and 20 meters are still producing low
output,
but drawing 20 amps or more, I would suggest you contact Flex Technical
support

so they can walk you through some possible resolutions.

Rob W1AEX
