Re: [Flexradio] Damage control - "designed for AM" ?

2012-02-27 Thread Robert Logan
I have a little 1500. It sounds great on AM too. Several people here in the
Austin TX area run the 3K and 5K on AM too. They all sound very good and full.

see if it still does it. If it does I will do a Screen capture Video for Tim

Thanks Jim, that's the issue. I have always believed the only stupid
question is the one that isn't asked. This fixes the issue, just a touch of
the AGC-T and its back to normal. Hopefully this is addressed in the next
release. I never even thought of adjusting the AGC-T as the slider is still
where it was set.

Craig,
I do. There's apparently a bug in the RX2 / AGC-T code. It sets the AGC-T
RX2 to "very high", regadless of the position of the AGC-T slider, the first
time I open RX2 in a new mode on a new band. This really blasts the RX2
audio until I jiggle the AGC-T RX2 slider just a little bit. I've learned
to go through all the modes and bands one time at low volume, and jiggle the
AGC-T slider, if I ever reset the database.
It's such an obvious bug that I haven't even reported it.

Re: [Flexradio] Unusual Issue

2012-02-27 Thread Craig Gagner
Thanks Jim, that's the issue. I have always believed the only stupid
question is the one that isn't asked. This fixes the issue, just a touch of
the AGC-T and its back to normal. Hopefully this is addressed in the next
release. I never even thought of adjusting the AGC-T as the slider is still
where it was set.

Thanks

Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info

2012-02-27 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

Dudley, Perhaps I was too arcane in my request. When I open PSDR, I want all
the little mini windows that I've opened, to open again where I last left them.
I keep Antenna, ESC, and Mixer open next to the main display. Other hams keep
Memory, CWX, or Temp/Voltage open all the time. Even with two big monitors, I
must fit all these mini windows around DDutil and my logging program(s). It's
not all that difficult to store last mini-window state (open or closed), and
last mini-window position. As an example, the main PSDR window's postiion and
size is stored upon clean shutdown. When you open HRD's Logger, it pops up
right where you left it, with the Add window in the last place you left it too.
That's what I meant. Thanks for your reply. BTW, I did just get a
FlexControl, based on the positive comments here and on the DDUtil forum. Jim

Lest not forget about those of use that use their SDR computer for a

Re: [Flexradio] Unusual Issue

2012-02-27 Thread William H. Fite
I second your motion, Lee. I've not had ANY of the problems described
here (TBTG!) and I use my system for internet and some heavy
floating-point processing, usually with PSDR running in the
background.

OK, I've been lucky. But what concerns me a bit is that problems that
clearly are the consequence of Windows are described as though they
were faults in PSDR.

That's what we in research methodology call a specification error.
Doesn't matter how good the answer is if you ask the wrong question.

One of the local VEs remarked at Hamcation that they should include
computer competency questions on the licensure exams and I'm inclined
to think he is right. Then we can speak smugly of "no computer
noobs."

Re: [Flexradio] Unusual Issue

2012-02-27 Thread Lee Mushel

Gentlemen,

Over the past three years or so I've read dozens of PC-PowerSDR "events" and
I think that at one time or another I've experienced nearly all. If they
don't persist I have always assumed that they are the result of infrequent
interactions between the software, firmware and maybe even the infrequent
cosmic ray. I don't let them bother me and I certainly never let them
detract from the never-ending enjoyment I get from these radios. I doubt
that such things will ever disappear entirely and forever. Especially in
light of the fact that we expect, and yes, demand that the features and
capabilities of these radios change and, hopefully, dramatically improve
constantly.

Since I have chosen to have separate computers for my 5000A, 3000 and SDR-IQ
I suspect that I have fewer of these "problems" than most. And the fact
that none of these machines are connected to the internet is another factor
that I don't doubt makes my life more serene!

I do monitor the CPU usage fairly closely and know perfectly well that
forced upgrades of the machines is not too far away but my habits don't put
too much pressure on performance in that regard.

But there are times that I worry that our "complaints" affect decisions of
folks who are only recently considering the purchase of SDR equipment. And
if you are one of those I would hope that you would clearly understand that
denying yourself of something that Flex calls "excitement" because of these
malfunction descriptions would really be a shame. And that you will be the
poorer if you take them too seriously!

[Flexradio] Unusual Issue

2012-02-27 Thread Craig Gagner
Fresh boot on computer, bring up PSDR in single RX mode, start the 2nd RX
and tune in a signal. Now when I click the TX on the VFO B the volume goes
way up and the signal is gone. If I shut the software down and bring it back
up, the volume is normal and the signal is there again and I am able to TX
on the VFO B.

I hope this makes sense, I can do a screen video of it if needed.

Anyone else have this issue ??

Thanks

Craig, W1MSG
