It doesn't matter as long as it works. I have done both at different times.

General rule-of-thumb: if it is working, leave it alone.

Have you noticed a drop in your cpu usage? I have read from another Win7-64

In my case, I had recently installed 64-bit Win7 in place of the 32-bit
version, and the VAC 4.09 drivers I had were not "signed" (perhaps
signed versions were available, but I did not have them).

No problems so far with ver. 4.11

Now, this DC is only present if PowerSDR is running and the headphone is

As long as I don't fry my Headphones I can live with this, but maybe

Re: [Flexradio] WSPR and CAT and first time use

2012-03-16 Thread Michael Walker
Hi Brian

That is interesting.

Note for other first time users that don't read the manual fully.. all the
time, like me!

If you are expecting the WSPR waterfall to start 'right away', it doesn't.
WSPR does everything based on being at the top of every even minute.

So, the first time you start up, and after that first even minute, look for
your RX noise value in the bottom left corner. Make sure that the Idle
button is NOT checked.

Slide the slider to 0 to disable transmitting.

Then, you'll see a slight waterfall of received data. Being in Panafall
also helps.

Those are some of the 'newbie' gotchas! :)

[Flexradio] Vac 4.11

2012-03-16 Thread Tony Cranston
Folks

I have noticed something since I upgraded to VAC 4.11. I have cables 1 and 2
in use .These are setup as instructed in the Wiki And the release notes.

I am using a Flex 3000. All works as it should with Digital Third Party
Programs, If I switch to the I/Q output for CW SKIMMER it starts an
UNDERFLOW in one cable. The numbers grow quite large. Vac 1 is input to
programs, Vac 2 is output to programs. Vac 2 is the cable that is affected.
Not sure if this has any effect as of yet but will keep an eye on it.

Re: [Flexradio] DC on Headphones

2012-03-16 Thread Rob Keijzer
Hi Jim,

Thanks for answering. I don't think there's a coupling capacitor in series
wit the signal, because at some point the cap would be fully charged,
thereby blocking the flow of DC completely.

Instead, current keeps flowing. If I pull out the headphone jack after an
hour it still loudly cracks.

I don't know if it would violate the warranty, but otherwise I would insert
capacitors in the signal path followed by 1k resistors to ground (to enable
charging w/o headphones connected).

again, I'm only worried to burn my nice headset (Heil ProSet+) otherwise
I'm fine. Also the audio itself sounds good to me.

For clarity: there's only DC present when the headphones are selected in
the mixer, NOT when thats unticked, or PowerSDR is shut down.

I'm on Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Re: [Flexradio] Upgrading to VAC 4.11

Bill.

This version went in fine. You must uninstall the 4.09 version and
then install the 4.11 version. Wroking well here.

As was patiently explained to me, what you need to do is find the URL
that you used to download 4.09, change the 409 in the URL to 411,
and download again. What you get is a zip file containing
everything you need to install 4.11 after you uninstall 4.09

Does that help?

OK, but what does 4.11 do that 4.09 doesn't do? Is it worthwhile to
upgrade?

And what should be used to uninstall 4.09. I had a bad experience
with the Trial version using Windows Control Panel and Add/Remove
Programs. When I bought and downloaded the Licensed version, it said
to uninstall ALL previous versions of VAC. Add/Remove Programs does
NOT do a complete job and left some pieces of the Trial version.
Therefore, the Licensed version would NOT load. I got a lot of help
from a friendly Flexer and the problem was solved.

But, does one need to use something like Revo to remove the old
version?

Thanks for the help.

Use the VAC uninstaller ("Uninstall Virtual Audio Cable") found in your
Programs list under Virtual Audio Cable.
