Re: [Flexradio] Alternatives to Skype for remote audio?

2012-06-11 Thread Erik Jakobsen

Hi Rich,
I have gotten "TeamViewer 7" VoIP audio working after many try's and the
audio is really quite good on HF. You have to turn it on at both ends which
is NO problem because I use TeamViewer for the remote access control anyway
and I just have to click the audio connect button on the Radio side as well
as the (Local) remote side.

I need to do a write up on it so I don't forget how to do it and when I get
some time of course, I can pass it around if anyone else is interested.

The Audio for me is MUCH better then Skype which I have used for several
years and doesn't have all the extra crap.

If you turn down the Refresh Rates under the Setup, Display tab it will help
with bandwidth.

I have used Skype in the past. However, Skype is designed for high
quality telephone conversations and it tries to eliminate background
noise. A certain amount of noise is inherent in our usage and any
attempt to eliminate it, instead of improving it, causes pumping. Thus,
I use IPSound by SM5VXC which just plays it like it is. Thus, I find
that IPSound works much better than Skype for our purposes.

Sure. You can use XVTRs with the FLEX-3000. The first 2 rows are
dedicated to the FLEX-5000 VU module, but all the others are available.

[Flexradio] Noise Floor Flex 3000 out of wack!

2012-06-11 Thread Gary Franklin
I received many responses to my inquiry and would like to thank all
those who responded! It turned out to be a Calibration issue. After
running the calibration routine the noice floor dropped to normal
levels about -115 dbm.

Gary,K8BKB

I have received many suggestions and have cleared up a couple of the
issues below! But no one has commented on the high noise floor .
-73 dbm with no antenna attached! seems out of wack to me . any
suggestions?

Thanks
Gary, K8BKB

Re: [Flexradio] Looking to buy a 1500 and for some advice

2012-06-11 Thread Justin M. Mayrand
I have to agree with Lester - an FT-857D is the easiest package.

Taking a computer, radio, amp, tuner, etc will be a major PITA.

A ruggedized laptop (I use a Panasonic ToughBook CF-30 MK.2) and a Flex 3000
would be the best Flex setup, but that needs 13.8V for the Flex and 120V or a
voltage booster for the laptop.
