[Flexradio] FMT Wednesday night

2012-11-13 Thread Michael Walker
All

You might want to partake in the Frequency Measurement Test tomorrow night.
You will find you can get very accurate measurements with your Flex radio.

I use WSPR and the instructions at this page:
http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wspr.html. Just search for
FMT on that page.

If you are running WSPR, you are ready to go. If not, you have some setup
to do.

Re: [Flexradio] Power SDR on a Mac

2012-11-13 Thread Ken Alexander
Firewire isn't an issue for me because I'm using USB to control my 1500.
Everything went fine with the Boot Camp and Windows 7 installation except
Windows doesn't "see" my wireless mouse.  No problem when I boot to Mountain
Lion.

So you need to get a 1394b (800) to 1394a (400) cable. I have used the Mac
Mini with the Flex radios without any problems. In fact, they are a good
match. You can set the Mini right on top of the 5000 or 3000 and get a
really short bonding cable between them to greatly reduce the possibility
of RFI problems.

I'm running Power SDR on an iMac i5 processor with only 4meg RAM. But I'm
running WIn 7 under BootCamp. It works just fine and have been doing so for
some time now. Just be care to make sure you update BootCamp when you
update the main Mac OSX to a significant new OS like Lion to Mountain Lion,
or whatever. I thought the BootCamp upgrade was automatic with the Mac
system upgrade and learned that it is not and it can create some issues if
you don't upgrade both.

Good luck and I suspect the Mini will be fine but does it support FireWire?
That's not an issue if you are using a Flex 1500 of course.
