Re: [Flexradio] FlexControl CAT Commands

2014-06-10 Thread VaibhaV Sharma
Thanks for that info.

What format does the flexcontrol unit talk on that serial interface? I was
reading through powersdr 2.7 source and did see direct hooks for the
flexcontrol unit.

Is there any detailed technical documentation on how the flexcontrol unit
talks to power/smartsdr? That would really make it easy for me to work on
the translation interface.

Thanks,

The FlexControl is a USB device that talks over a serial interface. All of
the software that interfaces with the FlexControl talks directly with the
knob serially rather than talking through another API like CAT to get to
the knob. I hope that helps.

Re: [Flexradio] Power Supply Advice

The rating for the FLEX-6700 is 23 amps @ 13.8 VDC. I use a 15 year old
Astron RS-35M and it does just fine.

My new 6700 is supposed to arrive tomorrow - like a kid at Christmas!! It
has been less than a week since ordering, but cannot wait! Am sure I can
use the old supply with no issues for awhile and at my normal low power.
However, really don't want to trust the expensive new toy to a 25 year old
power supply rated below the Flex specs.

So, what have Flexers found to be good, modern supplies? Any issues with
noise from the switching supplies? Particular brand you like?

Thanks for any inputs.

Re: [Flexradio] Power Supply Advice

2014-06-10 Thread TM
Many thanks for all the helpful inputs - both on and off list.

Think for now I will just be content with my old, trusty Astron. I probably
will operate the new rig as I have the 3000, at lower powers. Also,
checking the Astron site I found even the old Astrons have good over current
and voltage protection.

To answer one of the questions - I did not see a recommended supply in the
Flex documentation for the 6700. The specs are for max currents of 3A RX
and 23A TX. The Astron 20A specs are 16A continuous and 20A at a 50% duty
cycle. So, it is not off by too far.

Thanks again. This list is really a great resource. Hope to see you on the
bands.
