[Flexradio] Dayton impressions?

2013-05-21 Thread David Decoons
Did anyone spend time playing with the 6700s at Dayton?

I haven't really seen any feedback from Dayton attendees on their
impressions of the 6000 series radios that wete on display.

Also if someone went to Visalia and Dayton, how much has the software
matured since?

I'm eagerly awaiting my 6500 and would like to get feedbak of initial
impressions.

Re: [Flexradio] Confusion about VSP Manager & DDutil

2010-05-07 Thread David Decoons
Gary,

Leave the radio port in DDUtil at COM5 (PowerSDR is COM 4). Launch
PowerSDR and DDUtil. In the title bar of DDUtil you should see your
current VFO and frequency setting and it should follow when you tune
the radio. THis ensures PowerSDR is talking to DDUtil.

Next, on the ports tab in DDUtil set RCP1 to COM 6. On the RCP tab set
RCP 2 to COM 8 and RCP 3 to COM10.

Now set BobSMeter to COM7. Set your other apps to COM9 and Com 11.

Try that and see. It should work.

[Flexradio] Flex 5000A Distorted SSB tx audio when drive level is reduced

2010-05-01 Thread David Decoons
Hi All,

I noticed an issue where I have distortion on my SSB tx audio when the
drive level is reduced. I wonder if this is related to the PSK31 users
who noticed increased IMD on their tx with drive level reduced.

Flex 5000A
Firmware 1.3.0.8
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Firewire driver 3.5.0.7171
PowerSDR 1.18.2, 1.18.5 and 1.18.6 (tested with different versions,
including one version prior to the ALC overshoot improvements)

RE-27 mic with W2IHY EQ & EQ Plus into balanced line in. TX bandwidth
is 50 - 3050 Hz. Using 192k and 2048 for sample rate and buffers.

I drive an Icom PW-1 so I key in tune mode and adjust drive to show 1
KW out into dummy load. Resultant drive is 23.

In SSB I set the drive to 23. I have balanced line mixer one noth down
from top. I adjust mic gain to show -2 dBm on mic meter during tx.
THis gives me 1 KW as shown on external peak reading meter. Audio has
distortion on voice peaks and does not have good high frequency
articulation. DIstortion is described as "fuzzies". Almost the same
sound as RFI.

Now before people assume it is RFI.

I bring the drive to 100 and drop the mic gain down to give 1 KW peak
on external meter (same power out as previous step) and audio does not
have the distortion. High end articulation is definitely improved as
well. Also with the drive at 100 and mic gain reduced average power
out is improved over previous settings.

I have tested this above scenario with three other local Flex 5000A
owners and they all have distortion introduced into the tx audio when
the drive is lowered. It is more pronounced when drive is 25 or lower.
All four of us have different model amplifiers (PW-1, ALS-600, Emtron
DX-2SP, FL7000)

My question is, what exactly does lowering the drive do? DOes it
change PA or exciter bias? Change settings in the DSP?

My concern is overdrive of the solid state amp and protection of the
amp. With the drive at 23 I could not overdrive the amp and K5FR's
DDUtil program allows the overdrive control to set maximum power out
per band. Now if the audio is a little too high it can cause overdrive
and potentially damage the amp.

Thanks,
Dave

[Flexradio] Windows 7 beta - Flex firewire driver defaults to 48000

2009-06-19 Thread David Decoons
I installed Windows 7 RC1 to do some compatibility testing
I changed the 1394 driver in Windows 7 to the legacy driver and
installed the latest Flex driver. I set the driver to 192000/2048.

Upon booting the PC the driver reverts back to 48000 sampling rate.
This is a Windows 7 issue as XP and Vista work fine and retain the
settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

[Flexradio] Flex 5000A intermittent no power out

2009-04-22 Thread David Decoons
Hi All,

Have a 5000A with RFIO34B and without ATU. Intermittently I get no
power out. Mic level is fine but no RF out on any mode or when hitting
the tune button. Drive level is at 100.

I have to physically turn off the 5000A and power supply and hold
power button for 30 seconds to do a cold reset, then after restarting
the power out is fine. I've first noticed this start happening with
release version 1.18.0 and is also happening with SVN builds after the
release of 1.18.0 including the current build 2938.

I am using Vista 32 Ultimate Service pack 1 beta and Firewire driver
version 3.4.0.4877. I am using 192k sampling rate and 2048 buffers
with safe mode level 1. PowerSDR is set to match and process priority
is set to above normal.

I am currently running remote using VAC 4.09, Skype, and TightVNC so
it is not possible for me to reset the 5000A until I get home.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: [Flexradio] Listening to Flex off air recording

2008-11-03 Thread David Decoons
In Wave/Options the receive should be set to post processed and
transmit to pre processed. Also set the rate to 48000. Then the
quicksdr.wav should play with media player or other audio player
capable of playing wav files.

Note - the settings are opposite of the default settings.
