[Flexradio] 5000A and the Candle

2015-03-05 Thread Hunter Ellington via FlexRadio
Well Drax, when the lights go out, the candles come on.  Hardly an apropos
comparison.  No one ever said buy our candles, they will last forever.  I love
my 5000A, but do chafe at the way the matter was handled.  Glad I didn't buy a
5000A the week before the announcement and pay full price.

[Flexradio] Market for 5000A's

2015-03-01 Thread Hunter Ellington via FlexRadio
I know I tried to sell my basic, no options, 5000A three times.  I listed it
for $1500 and had no offers.  I dropped the price to $1300, and still no bites
(this was five months ago).  I finally put it on for $1200, and the only
response was from some crank who berated me for destroying the value of the
5000A.  At that point, I concluded that the radio was worth more to me than
the market would pay.  It amazes me that Yaesu FT1000MP's or FT2000's still
bring between $1200-$1800 (sometimes more), rigs that are clearly inferior to
the 5000A.  I'll keep mine as long as the software continues to work, and the
hardware can be maintained.  Wouldn't mind a 6300 or a 6500 though. K0GFY  R.

[Flexradio] Lightning Strikes

2014-07-17 Thread Hunter Ellington via FlexRadio
Lightning hit the shack last evening.  Although everything was on surge
protectors, spikes came in through the phone line, blew the surge protector and
took out my DSL modem.  I further discovered that my computer seems to have
lost its Ethernet card, and maybe the Firewire card.  The F5000A turns on, but
the computer does not see it.  What tests can I do to determine whether the
communication issue is with the radio, the computer, or both?
