[Flexradio] help with new flex software

2008-07-19 Thread Richard Beerman

I feel like the evil Joker here not understanding or being crafty enough to
defeat Batman! I took a real leap of faith today and downloaded the current
Flex software and driver. Amazingly, even a total klutz of a PC operator was
able to more or less get the current model running. I have one big question
and this is after looking at the setup menus many times and manual for
quite a long time.

The receiver works quite well better than with the original 10.X.X software
supplied by flex on a CD. For the life of me, I can not operate the key
breakin or mic in PTT without clicking on MOX. When I do that, the transmitter
works just fine. What am I missing to make CW breakin and PTT work on the new
software? Everything is "ON" in the setup but it still is not working, as far
as I can see.

Your suggestions and help is appreciated as always. Dick W5AK

[Flexradio] Digital operation on 5000A-especially WSJT

2008-07-14 Thread Richard Beerman

Admittedly, I might not be the sharpest blade in the tool chest on PC
computers. However, I am not completely illiterate either. Making digital modes
work on the 5000A seems really clumsy. Check me out and please tell me my
errors, if any. First, you have to have VAC running. You also have to have the
virtual port connection software running. Then you have to have the digital
software of choice running. And of course, you have to have PowerSDR running.
After several months of serious effort, I can get Digipan running sometimes. I
could get Mix2 running, but why spend the money for that? I have tried a many
times to get WSJT running - even with Tim's settings, without any luck. I want
to get MMTTY and MMSSTV running also, but because I have had no luck with WSJT,
I have not had time to even try those softwares.

When I used to run a TS-950SDX, it was load the software, plug the interface in
and set the ports on the software and away you go. Is there someone out there
who I can call on the phone to get WSJT set up? I bought this radio to run WSJT
and if it is not working, ... well, the radio is not of much use to me.

Gosh, this seems really more difficult than it needs to be, especially when the
K-3 actually decodes PSK and RTTY on it's display. I need some real experienced
guidance. Thanks Dick W5AK

[Flexradio] paddle suggestions - I'm "bugged"

2008-05-22 Thread Richard Beerman

My regular paddle is in a shipping container returning from Hong Kong. So,
being "strung out" from a lack of cw activity, I dragged a 60 year old well
used Vibroplex bug off the shelf and wired a plug as per the manual. Folks,
maybe I have something set wrong (I wouldn't doubt it) but my 5000A hated that
bug. You couldn't even call what I was sending cw not even just keying the
dash side of the key! So, the question is this are there a couple of
commercially available paddles KNOWN to work on the 5000a consistently well? I
understand that there is some strange resistance requirement for a key to make
the radio play correctly using the internal keyer. Since gas is $4 a gallon,
maybe I should avoid some of the upper end imports, if possible. I appreciate
your suggestions. Dick W5AK

[Flexradio] 6 Meter operation of the 5000A

Friends, Hopefully, I have not set something correctly. Otherwise, this radio
has one of the most horrible 6 Meter receivers that I have ever encountered. My
14 year old TS-60S is killing this 5000A. Please tell me that I've gone astray
somehow. Dick W5AK

[Flexradio] New Flexer

2008-03-18 Thread Richard Beerman

Hi Flexers Just ordered a 5000A from John last night Hong Kong time. We are
moving back Stateside and reestablishing our station with a Flex Radio. I am
completely not a computer guy, but rather an operator/station coordinator. Much
of I will be doing is on VHF using WSJT but I enjoy CW on HF as well. I am
looking for suggestions for a proper computer/hardware purchase for my new
setup. I have a great computer guy in Houston who can build any computer. I
have read the info on the Flex Radio re computer requirements/suggestions
website but it has nothing I can understand for the most part. I need a bit
more BASIC specific guidance on a machine that will work with Flex for a
relatively long time and without any integration issues. I guess I should
specify Windows XP because I would have zero idea how to deal with VISTA. This
is a classic question what should be posted somewhere. I guess that what I am
asking is a list of basic computer components known to work on Flex (by
manufacturing nomenclature) that I can hand to my computer guy (in addition to
the info on the Flex site). Thanks! Dick VR2/W5AK
