[Flexradio] Transverter for Flex 6300

2015-07-30 Thread Tom Warren
Don’t forget the Elecraft line of transverters. They have a little lower pwr
output but just fine for running solid state amps. I’ve had good experience
with them and run a
kw amp on 2M. They’re also good on FM if that’s you’re cup of tea.

If you plan on getting involved in weak signal digital work, be sure the
transverter you decide on has good freq. stability…..both the DEMI and Elecraft
XVTR’s qualify in that regard.

Good luck on your decision.

[Flexradio] ATU & RF Pwr Meter Problem

2014-02-02 Thread Tom Warren

  Rick,

I read your posting with interest. I have almost the same situation where I
have no pwr output or swr indication
but comfirm actual pwr output via Bird meter. I also have the ATU and but it
works fine…..no error message.

I’ve posted my issue here with no results other than pack it up and send it
to FRS….no real explanation that
I can remember. I also called FRS on two different occasions without reply, so
I’ll be interested to see if anyone
replies to you with an answer to what could possibly be wrong.

I just purchased a used bundled FLex 5000A to replace my Flex5000A with ATU
which I'll probably soon post to sell. Here is what I'm finding with the
new one:

I see no RF Pwr in the meter though there is power output shown in the
Palstar tuner meter. The ATU settings also reports "Tune Failed: No RF
Detected"

Any suggestions?

[Flexradio] PSDR v2.7.2

2013-12-22 Thread Tom Warren
  John,

I posted info about this situation a few days ago. Basically, it seemed that I
had to re-input
settings having to do with the accessories I am using on my F5Ka. In my case
it's
an Elecraft XV144 transverter. It saved the XVTR 'form' but it had wiped all
of my XVTR settings. It also reset all my antenna settings to default….I use
the
loop setting for my external 6M preamp. There were some other items but not
even worth mentioning…..took abt 2 seconds to reset.

   HTH……

Merry Christmas,

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

When I upgraded PSDR from v2.6.4 to v2.7.2 for my F5000A + VU I was unable
to get the data transfer program to work and had to manually update the data
base.

While creating the new transmit profiles, I discovered that the drive level
was now saved in the profile. I use amps on 160, 6 & 2 meters and had
reduced drive levels set for these bands to avoid overdriving the amps. In
v2.6.4 I had one profile setup for each mic and mode, and now in v2.7.2 I
have had to create additional profiles for these bands with reduced drive
levels to avoid overdriving the amps.

Has anyone else experienced this condition?

I don't know if this change was intentional or if it is a bug. I would
prefer that the drive level be set and fixed per band and not included in
the transmit profile.
73 and Happy Holidays,

John, N8WNA

Re: [Flexradio] 2.7.2 consensus sought

2013-12-20 Thread Tom Warren

 About the Data Transfer --

I have also 'successfully' upgraded my Flex 5000a (win7pro-64) to v2.7.2 and
successfully
used the v1.0.1 Data Transfer program.

However, BE AWARE that the Data Transfer program only transfers
what is specifically listed on the page of items to be moved. Be prepared to
re-input additional info, maybe based on your additional accessories, for
instance;

1. I run an Elecraft XV144 transverter which drives a KW amp and have the
the details plugged into the Flex XVTR form as required…..(LO offset, LO
error, etc.).
All that info needed to be input again. The Data Transfer program shows
that the XVTR
form will be transferred, which it does, but the input info has been
wiped clean.
2. The specific transverter TX info also had to be added again.
3. My 'skin' reverted to a default and had to be reset…no big deal if you use
one from the drop down menu…..just an FYI.
4. Your waterfall settings will be changed to a (default ?)…again, an FYI to
save your old
waterfall settings. Maybe this is due to the new 'weak signal' setting, I
don't know.
5. You may have to recalibrate your frequency setting, mine was 3 khz too
high….agn NBD but did
require to reset my XVTR LO error setting.
6. Antenna settings were all reset to default (ANT 1)and had to be reset
including my 6M ( preamp)
loop setting, not really a problem for me…... just be aware.

NOTE: All of this may be due to my setup, which is very basic, in fact my (one
of Neal's) computer
is only connected to the internet for rare occasions like this upgrade and for
recalibrating my time clock
for weak signal digital work. I've had great experience with my Flex !!

So it seems to me that the files/settings which are transferred are those
(many) basic files
and not the files associated with accessory equipment. I mention this only to
alert others
who might have other hardware requiring custom settings. I save my settings
(and revisions)
in a 3-ring binder which is a lifesaver.

It's interesting to note that David's (VK3AUU) cw memories were not transferred
but mine were; maybe that's
the difference between a F1500 XP and F5000 win7…..;0).

Merry Christmas……..

Seems OK to me. I upgraded from v2.6.4. I read the release notes. The only
thing that didn't transfer was the CW messages and the antenna connections
for the different bands. No big deal.
Flex1500, XP .
