You made me feel bad :-( .. The schematics are available in the Flex 5000
Service Manual, contact Dudley on how to get that.
That may answer some of your questions.

Subject: [Flexradio] Antenna Selection Options

Is there a document, or has someone put something together, to describe what
the physical interconnects are on a FLEX-5000? The only articles I've found
in the KB don't go far enough.

A lot of my interest stems from wanting to permanently connect, say, a
longwire to one port, an 80/40 dipole to another, a Steppir to the third (
and dedicated 144 and 440MHz antennas to the two ports of the V/U module).
All with the intent of using the two receivers at will on any mix of
independent bands with antennas appropriate to those bands.

Some specific questions:
1. Is there a "priority" to the ANT1, ANT2, ANT3 ports, especially with
regard to RX1 and RX2? I note that RX1 can be routed to any of the three
ports but RX2 is only served by ANT1. (Now you could assign RX1-TAP to RX2
but that doesn't allow the two receivers to be connected to independent
antennas.

***
As I understand it.
RX1 - RX1, ANT1, ANT2, ANT3 connections on back
RX2 - RX2, ANT1 connections on back, RX1 Tap
**

2. The Antenna Selection Pane shows both "2m" and "VU 2m." Howcome? Which
do I believe?
***
VU 2m -- it's may understanding this will cleaned up in a future release
***

3. For that matter, what antenna selection is possible for 2M if it has its
own dedicated port? (Same question regarding selection for VU70cm.)
**
For 2m and 70cm their respective connectors are the only connection point
**

4. I think I understand that the transverter port(s) are at 28MHz, right?
For those of us who have a shack full of 144MHz (or 432MHz) IF microwave
transverters, does the XVTR Setup Pane affect anything, i.e., the 144 and
440 ports, besides the transverter ports?
**
Defer to others on this one
*

A schematic of the HRFIO-34 might be helpful, but I suspect some sort of
logical description with an accompanying cartoon (no jokes, please) would be
the most effective way of describing the available options to an owner.

Figured it out
Running here DDUtil version 1.8.7.01 here
can't see any "PTT choices" there BUT
under AMP button select the "AMP Bands" you want to use then click the
yellow "PTT STBY" button now it works like it is supposed to, I am not sure
why this version defaulted to the PTT's Off but it did.

If so, check your settings on the 'Other' tab of DDUt and the PTT choices.

i've got a complex antenna setup including a device used to switch one linear
amplifier among 2 antennas.

the "antenna setup" is not suitable to my needs.
simple setup is too simple, expert setup is almost ok, but lack the ability to
use 2 different setup for the same band.
in my opinion the best antenna setup should be a "multiple simple setup". in a
word, the ability to create more then one "simple setup" with a easy way to
select one of them.
an "antenna setup" like this one is like having an external switching box with
a knob to select the antenna routing.
is it feasible?

Re: [Flexradio] Antenna Selection

2009-07-08 Thread Clay W7CE
I agree that this selection should be moved to the main window. I have two
6M antennas (one on Ant3 and the other connected to RX2 through an ARR
preamp). I use the TX2 relay output to control a transfer relay so I can
select which one I'm transmitting on. I have to keep the Antenna form open
all the time because I use it constantly, but it gets buried behind other
windows and I waste time looking for it. Because 6M openings can last
anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, contacts are usually
made quickly, almost like in a contest. You want the layout to be quick and
easy to use so you can maximize the number of contacts without spending
time looking for hidden windows.

I can't say that I am all that fussy about opening the "Antenna" form
whenever I want to change antennas. I really liked the way my FTDX-9000
handled the antenna selection . it has a simple set of 5 buttons (Ant1,
Ant2, Ant3, Ant4, RX) . you can click any antenna for the Main or Sub or
both . and then they simply light the LED color to match the Main, or Sub,
or a Mixture color to indicate both Main and Sub sharing the same antenna.
I

found this to be very good. Perhaps the Flex could take advantage of a
simple set of buttons like that? What does everyone else do . just leave
that form open all the time?
