I want to share an experience I had earlier today.
Some of you know that I have a fully upgraded 5000A. And one of my major
ham radio interests is emergency communications. This morning I had the
great pleasure of telling a fellow amateur I was talking to on a 2M repeater
that I was going to go from 2M to 40 meters using the same rig and the same
antenna! And you don't need a tuner! All you do is turn a crank! I don't
think he believed me when I described the few minutes of time needed to make
the change. And I know he didn't believe the SWR numbers I described!
You know, those boys from Washington have made a really wonderful addition
to ham radio!
I will admit that I have done all the things that the manual warns about
including "entanglements" a collapsing telescopic tower and not being
careful about it tipping into a tree. But I think that's all behind me
now! I can hardly wait for the Wisconsin snow to disappear. Portable
operation will certainly be different for me!

John,
I don't think you have anything to worry about.
The only thing I remember is there was a preamp mod done right after the
radio was introduced, I think the preamp was too "hot" so it had to be
tamed a bit. Bit this was literally months after it was introduced so I
think you are okay!
Besides, if it isn't I am sure Flex will do it for you!

Is there any difference hardware-wise, or upgradability-wise in acquiring
an older 3000, say, early 2010? Are there any models at a certain date,
that had a hardware upgrade?
